They're all a bunch of commies who profess hatred for the country who's freedom allowed their - supposed - artistic brilliance to flourish organically.
My hypothesis is that Bad Religion is definitely a Psy Op. An extension of the Laurel Canyon Scene operation from the 60's and 70's with a bit of Mockingbird and MK Ultra thrown into the mix. Controlled opposition and controlled messaging.
I haven't looked into it much, but I'd be curious to know the background of the band's original members fathers.
Kinda like Jim Morrison's father was the Admiral in charge of the Tonkin Gulf Affair.
But beyond that, their lyrics are just socio-gnostic cult (i.e. Marxist) grooming limericks.
Why do these "anti-establishment" chaos agents emerge from such middle-class, suburban people?
Still grumpy about the designated hitter. From the list above, influencers are the one thing that feels truly recent and awful (cancel culture and participation trophies have been around since I was a kid, and probably longer).
I try to recognize that not liking something that's aimed at folks 30-40 years younger than me isn't worth getting upset about, any more than I wanted to hear Boomers complain about the music/books/tv I enjoyed as a kid.
I'm on the tail of x. I once knew a peer who said he hated the use of the generation+letter terms as a method to group, or to divide, something to that effect.
What do I hate? I don't know specifically what, but the unfettered life and halycon days growing up pre millenium seems to have now almost been completely erased by glass buildings, swiping and inflation.
Going full tangental, it'd be remiss to say I hate politics. But I do hate the erosion of trust that was fostered in community. The misplaced trust in media. The misguided assumption that we should not strive to retain the optionality to maintain privacy, integrity and sanctity of our personal lives and private affairs. That our data should ever be vaccumed up on default settings for the whims of monopolistic quango-cum commercial arms of government, as artifacts for machine learning and surveillance.
I suppose that is a yes. I older I get, the less I feel hate. I don't hate anything or anyone. There is a lot I want to see change in the world but hating it doesn't do anything for me or the change.
I'm a millenial myself and listened to em since my teens, but for some reason, I've always associated GenX to The Offspring.
Something about the energy and themes in their music was very much GenX energy to me. Like it didn't quite come out of my own generation, but was rebelling against aspects and culture of my parents' (boomer) generation.
I didn't do a deep dive or anything recently so not sure how accurate my impression was
