If President-elect Donald Trump follows through with proposals to impose a 25% tariff on all items from Canada and Mexico, the result would be a stiff penalty on some of America’s favorite libations, not to mention the No. 1 beer brand in the nation: Modelo.
Some business owners have started stockpiling popular products — specifically tequila, which can be made only in Mexico — and taking other actions to help stave off potential price hikes.
However, industry leaders and analysts say consumers would still have to pay more in the end.
I'm now completely anti-Trump. I can't stand the fact the my favourite poadcast, the SNL, turns to water drinking and @car might have to act with an empty can like he's drinking while announcing the most popular segment on SN (in Bitcoin), the cowboy segment.
#ihatetrump #ihatetarrifs.

You don't drink as far as I can tell. Do you?
reply
You know it.

CNN. An extremely reliable and non-partisan news source.
You can tell by their non stop coverage of bidens expansion of tarrifs over the past 4 years.
reply
Biden doesn't get on TV every day and brag about his tariffs.
Trump drives the narratives. That's how he wins.
reply
Yeah man you can see why I took it so lightly. It's not for serious discussion but I really don't wanna see Bear leaves a pithole on our pockets.
I'm also not a lover of CNN.

I need to compare the prices from here. Isn't beer too cheap in India?
reply
Typical domestic beer is probably about $1-$1.50 a can/bottle. At a bar, it is typically $6-7. You can find cheaper prices at dive bars, but most places charge that.
@grayruby or @Undisciplined can tell us what it costs in North America?
reply
That sounds similar to where I live, probably a bit more expensive actually.
I'm not much of a beer or bar guy, so if beer shot up in price I wouldn't have noticed.
reply
Well, I'm also not a beer or bar guy. In fact I searched the prices then answered.
I know one thing for sure that beer is cheapest in Goa, India as many of my mates tell me after visiting there.
Do alcohal prices vary from state to state in USA? They do here.

That's interesting. I thought Goa was full of white tourists and expats, which would drive UP the prices on non-essentials...
reply
Yes, there are enormous differences in alcohol taxes across states.

Not very cheap. Only domestic beer is cheap. When you buy imported, it's almost double the domestic one.

I haven't drank for a month or two now. I think I'm going to stop drinking all together. There are other ways to destroy my body that I'd prefer.
reply
I stopped drinking about 5 years ago. I was extremely overweight and I needed to start taking care of myself better. I'm in much better shape now, but I still don't drink.
What I learned from not drinking, is that getting drunk all the time is like trying to play the game of life on hard mode, and I'm not particularly good at it on the easiest setting. So I just prefer to not drink anymore.

That's nice to hear. Maybe I'll lose some weight too.
In addition to hating the consequences, I also don't get that much "relief" from drinking. In some ways I wish I did because it's so convenient.
reply
I got a lot of instantaneous gratification, but it would effect me negatively for days on end. Even though I wasn't hungover, I had a hard time being motivated for days after.
The easiest way to drop some weight by the way is to stop drinking your calories. Doing that alone usually has positive outcomes for people.

Great perspective, thanks.

Everything has its pros and cons. What I've learnt is 100 ml red wine before food would do wonders for your health. Similarly 1 can of beer not very often not gonna harm your body.

I am in Mexico right now, maybe I should bring back some tequila and modelo negro.
reply
You should definitely bring back a few. I saw you there inthe SNL from Mexico and seeing this news made me relate to the location and your drowsiness all through the episode.
I was kinda thinking, you were in a lot of tension?

lol, ya traveling during the holidays does that i think, the things you do for bitcoin & community
reply
This is fine but I just can't see any tension on my favourite announcer's face. If Trump does a tarrif on Beer, you're invited to our fields where we make our own 'Desi' which tastes and has much more impact.

Tried bringing back a giant bottle of mescal but they caught it.
Funny thing is she said it was just too big, but they did give me the chance to drink it outside if I wanted to.
Told her to keep it and enjoy it! She said thanks.
reply
What! Only for 1 bottle!
Like Mexico to the US, we have Nepal and we can bring 2 to 3 bottles of mescal (Desi Daru) from there. Nepal makes the best mescal after Mexico.

Ya 1 bottle, I actually forgot I had it in the bag, didn’t think it was going to be problem.

It happened on the Mexican side or US?
I also wonder why that woman thought a bottle (750ml) can be so big a deal. I doubt If these are written in their rulebooks.
Good thing I don’t drink
