i've noticed the way i process and think about zaps is kind of divorced from their fiat value. like if something gets 500 zaps, it feels very satisfying, despite the fact that in fiat terms, it's like a few cents.
I also find I have some kind of mental limit on not zapping more than like 30 sats on nostr or here, and to zap something 100 sats, in my brain, would almost feel reckless lol
how do you think about zaps and how much you decide to zap etc?
Symbolic default of 21 sats.

good number

Same. I upped to 30 sats for a while but didn’t like it because the 21 increment just feels right.

Here's how I see it:
• 10-20 is kinda okay • 20-50 is good • 50-100 is great • 100-1000 is amazing • 1000+ suberb

The highest zap i think i ever got was 500, anything past 100 is rare lol

I know that fiat currency can play with people's emotions, but there's something really satisfying about rewarding someone with 100 sats. You have no idea what you're missing!
reply
I don't think about it too much when I'm zapping, I zap just about everything that interests me at all, but on the flip side, any zap on something I posted feels extremely rewarding.
Like I could zap 50 sats on a post and not really think about it, but I get excited when I see 10 sats go back to me in my reply.

My default zap is 24. If I find that a Stacker has put in much effort or shared a lot about himself, I will zap 48 or 72 sats readily. I’m seldom tempted to zap 96 sats, though.
However, this Jan-Feb, when zapping activity was at an all-time high, I zapped 328 sats per comment without blinking an eye. The reason being that sometimes I got back 6k sats as rewards! Oh those were the good old days haha
reply
seems like most stackers fall into a similar psychological zap range

After all this time I don't think about it much. I zap posts and replies with my standard 43 sats, and then it's a multiple of that when I zap big. I just repeatedly hit the button or thumb zap on the phone. It's very rare that I take the time to actually enter a custom zap amount, unless it's for territory awards.

my default for some time had been 99 sats... i'm having to reconsider as this is now a meaningful amount of money... Now ~10 cents!

I think most bitcoiners assign a value to their bitcoin that is many multiples beyond the current fiat value even at ATHs.
That being said I look at my zapping sats much differently than my cold storage sats. I try to zap generously. I zap most comments/replies I get usually at least 40 sats, I zap posts I like minimum 100 sats and I usually zap 1k sats to a post at least a couple times a week. Around once a month I will find something I really want to reward and zap 10k sats.

that is some big baller zapping !

Oh I feel that! When I am on Nostr or on SN and I see that someone zapped me I feel so much joy! And I love to zap! Since I reinstalled Insta this week to see what all my fiat friends are up to I got annoyed so quickly that I can't zap good content.

zaps on nostr are way harder to come by so they feel extra special lol

500 sats is a fortune! This is the default for me hehehe...
Next is this: how what I am in investing in when I send, and what return did I get on what project I'm running myself when I receive?
Part of me knows that in the infinite possibilities out there somehow there is a highly improbably, but still viable project or way of using Bitcoin to survive & thrive, so searching for that totally makes sense...

500 is a good number i think , something satisfying about round numbers

When you zap you should always take in consideration the SN tax cut of 30% too

Funny you should ask. My first really popular post was about exactly this question.
I still have the mental peg of roughly 1 sat = 1 cent.

I feel the same. How I feel about sats isn't at all how they convert to dollars, yet.... This is a great indicator of how early we are. The real value of sats is not even close to being realized.

Zap a nice post and zap back accordingly.
