Some time ago, I don't know how long ago, I stopped posting in the Stacker News Room. I used to do it at the beginning as a way to learn how to make posts. It's not that I've learned everything, but I'm taking more risks to publish in the territories. These days I've reread the Bitcoin White Paper, I always get something new out of it, it's natural that it is like that, the more you learn the more you understand. I'm going over the DarthCoin guides again, to keep improving. The Bitcoin Pattern book has me thinking about the subject of money, I think that until I understand this point well I won't be able to advance as much as I want.
Anyway, after 3 or 4 months of having entered the Bitcoin rabbit hole, I'm looking for the first thing I read again and so I can see my progress, I'm missing a world, but I'm enjoying the trip.
Thank you community, thank you Bitcoin, thank you Stacker News, thank you Cuba_Bitcoin.

@k00b I can't seem to pay the territory fees since the switch. Normally clicking pay generates a LN invoice. But it isn't this time. Did I miss something that was announced?

@Public_N_M_E which sending wallet are you using?
As a temporary fix, you can:
  1. uncheck enabled on your sending wallet
  2. save the wallet
  3. navigate to the territory
  4. click pay and QR will show
Then you'll want to reenable your wallet by going back to the sending wallet and check enabled again and save.
reply
That worked. Payment made.
reply
I'm using coinos, as it was a quick fix for the moment.
I'll try those steps. Cheers @k00b
reply
25 sats \ 17 replies \ @ek 7 Nov
Do you have a wallet attached from which it might try to pay from? That usually prevents the QR code to show up until the wallet payment failed.
But I think territory payments have some special logic regarding this iirc so might still be a bug on our end. That’s not unheard of.
reply
26 sats \ 16 replies \ @k00b 7 Nov
I've been testing and can't reproduce.
My guess is that the attached wallet isn't paying/erroring fast enough. If it errors, we show the QR (no matter how long it took to error). If it succeeds, it will show as paid.
Perhaps the communication with the attached wallet is very slow, or it's failing to pay without raising an error.
reply
25 sats \ 15 replies \ @ek 7 Nov
Mhh, yes, we don’t have payment timeouts for all wallets, I think
reply
179 sats \ 14 replies \ @k00b 7 Nov
If I had to guess, in this case it's an NWC send but the nwc listener/node isn't responding (or the secret expired).
reply
25 sats \ 12 replies \ @ek 7 Nov
Oh, just checked: we only have timeouts during NWC validation but not during payments for any wallet. So that would make sense.
reply
179 sats \ 11 replies \ @k00b 7 Nov
Payment timeouts are tricky because we don't want them to try to pay the same invoice twice (preimage has been revealed).
We'd need to timeout, expire the original invoice, then QR popup a fresh one.
reply
I hope everyone is watching this conversation between you and ek... Complete professionals. You guys are diamonds.

I've been taking cold showers for about 2 years now. The initial jump in is still a dreaded experience.
reply
That's one healthy habit that I've decided to just take the L on. Good for you for sticking with it.
reply
I took a shower in glacier water once! That was the last time I ever wanted to take a cold shower. The water had just come off of a glacier in the Himalayas, slightly mineralize (you could see sparkles in the water). I wasn’t so sure it would be that icy cold, even after I tried it with my hand. I must say, it made for a very fast shower, though.
reply
I've been in plenty of cold glacier water out in the wild, but in the warmth of my own home, I choose hot water.
reply
Yes, I prefer hot water. Since I am not in Japan any more, I cannot get the ol’ fashoned, up to the neck, style of bath. Those were definitely the days!!!!
reply
25 sats \ 2 replies \ @OgFOMK 7 Nov
I recently heard a great expression. "There's such a thing as a hot bath and there's such a thing as a good bath. Most people want a good bath. A hot bath might be a good bath but a good bath is always a good bath."
The context was well outside the scope of this saloon but I'm reminded of something and let's just assume it's a squirrel.
RIP Peanut.
reply
I think Peanut ripped them a good one! A brand new a**hole during the election. Just what they deserved.
reply
I used to sit in the Japanese bath until I almost fell asleep. Once I did fall asleep in the bath. That was a huge mistake! I almost could not get out of the bath. Japanese baths are nice and hot, up to your neck. You get the all over heat treatment. Yes, this is also squirrelly.

I will say that having done this for two years I feel great afterward so I'm doing a micro time preference reduction in my head before I jump in.
That's a great experience. I'll bet that if you could do it every day you would, because it's moving, you know it's above 32 fahrenheit/ 0 celsius. And you didn't die after the first try.
When I go in I tense my diaphragm and push out my breath then I'm thinking, "Let's go!" Which is the 29th Infantry motto and my former National Guard Division!

I have a hangover from the election. The coverage was better on Rumble than the M5M.
I think Harris has a decent speech and I'm thinking that she's relaxed because it's over.
In the fake Trump and Harris "debate" my favorite moment was the beginning when they shook hands. In spite of my disdain for central planning, politics and the deep state I still love people and I like to see them act human.
When Donald Trump was first elected I was has literally into hating him by the M5M and I thought I was objective and smart but some things kind of shifted and my brain could not take the funk anymore.

A truth’s initial commotion is directly proportional to how deeply the lie was believed. It wasn’t the world being round that agitated people but that the world wasn’t flat. When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic. – Dresden James

Good morning, What's up my Stacker friends? I'm very happy because fiat is worth less and less to the only true currency of Bitcoin and gold but mainly Bitcoin. I approach political circumstances on the principle: ok, it's cool because Bitcoin is becoming more and more dominant, but since I'm not American but Polish, nothing is certain here and both governments are bad, the question is which one will turn out to be worse, at least in this situation with the uncertainty in the East. I simply approach it as "in times of peace and quiet Donald Trump proved himself and now time will tell and I prefer to be distrustful" What do you think about this?

Day 322 of posting mining earnings from the day before: 753 sats on 6Nov2024! Running total: 223,170 sats!
reply

In 2020 I bought a Coinmine because I didn't know better and I was lazy. I paid in Bitcoin in 2020. In 2 years I broke even in the Fiat value but if I had just kept my sats and not bought the Coinmine I would have 10 times the Fiat value.
In 2023 they closed shop. I tore my Coinmine apart and repurposed it as a Bitcoin full node and Lightning node. The Bitaxe looks like a great learning tool. 223,170 sats is nothing to sneeze at. So you get lightning payments because the tiny UTXOS might be messy?
reply
I’ve mined these using a fleet of 4 miners over time, including 1 bitaxe. I’ve been building a balance in my mining pool to avoid a fee with an on chain transaction. Lightning payouts are great though and I’ll switch to that shortly

Below is a 1st Degree Masonic Tracing Board. Notice the checker floor of black and white squares. It's the board (and life) of ordinary people who are constantly fighting on the good/bad, day/night, yin/yang. The goal as a mason is to move up beyond the melee of the common man
Notice the Cop's hat. His head is covered by a black hat and his head is wrapped in the checkered pattern.
Also... The graduate of college has his or her head under a black square. The higher "educators" have an octagon. The octagon is symbolic for the cube.
