Prometheus is the best movie in the Alien franchise

We watched Alien: Romulus this past weekend. Like most of the movies in the franchise, it was entertaining, but unlike Prometheus, that's all it was. Prometheus revealed a super humanoid alien race that panspermiated Earth with a self-sacrifice and that the homicidal Aliens aren't natural, they're biological weapons - autonomous, replicating, destroyers. Prometheus made the universe big, wonderful, comprehensive, and coherent. I've watched every Alien(s) movie before and since Prometheus hoping they'll double down on big ideas but none of them rise to this standard. I want to know more about the giant white tight ends in outer space.

Do any of you feel the same? Are there any alien ideas you'd like to see explored in media more whether in the Aliens franchise or not? Outside the franchise what are your favorite "big idea" alien movies?

I can't wait for crossposting because this obviously belongs in ~movies too. Ultimately, I felt like ~aliens_and_UFOs could use more love so I posted it here.

I loved the audacity of what Prometheus attempted, and actually think Aliens as a franchise has a good track record for taking risks compared to most franchises (#2 was an action movie, #3 a prison horror flick, #4 a heist). I just don't think it landed for me. Too many characters who just were, well, dumb (Charlize Theron dying because she didn't realize she could turn left or right was the lowlight).

That said, the backstory/worldbuilding is fantastic, and adds to the universe.

You're right, the cast was too large. It must be an easy trap to fall into as a writer because they still do it when we all know they shouldn't.

I like Prometheus a lot. I haven't seen Romulus but I can imagine it's pretty similar to Covenant, a horror movie featuring the alien from Alien.

Prometheus definitely has great worldbuilding and can stand on it's own, without relying on the "Alien."

That's perhaps why the official title doesn't have "Alien(s)" in it like all the others.

I would like to see a 'biblical' alien movie based on the 7 stars and Pleiades. I doubt that would ever happen, but I think its a novel idea. Some people think that Revelation 2:1 is speaking about Pleiades, but it could also be the 7 planets, as the Menorah is also 7 lights, and He relates the 7 Churches as being those things. Its an interesting thought, I can certainly say I feel a lot like an alien.

To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands.

I suspect that's why all the other ones aren't very thought provoking - most people think exploring ideas are weird.

I am a fan of the Alien resurrection, because that was the first of the series I saw. Then I ended up watching the others, and really enjoyed the knife scene in the first one.

since diving into the anunnaki connection series on youtube, ancient artifacts & architecture, etc. my consciousness has expanded. i am willing to consider many more possibilities outside of the usual thought-box; even studying history of the religious indoctrination has become fun.

these are very exciting days. there is nothing new under the sun, but we have had very limited exposure to knowledge. thank God for bitcoin, for freeing up some thinking capacity, and thank God for stacker news for inviting open discourse.
