This was from a large size rubbermaid type plastic container, price about 9 USD.
I removed the label sticker from it, and found another sticker underneath it, this one an anti shoplifting sticker. If you zoom in on the picture, you can faintly see the wires.
I was really surprised to see this kind of tech on such a relatively inexpensive item. Either shoplifting is really widespread, or these stickers are really cheap. Does anyone know more about them, how much they cost, what kind of tech they use?
I'm curious about shoplifting. Till a couple years ago I lived in an area where shoplifting was widespread and completely tolerated, and pretty much legal. The police absolutely wouldn't come unless the shoplifter was violent, and even then probably wouldn't come.
I did a little more research. They're called RFID tags, looks like there's been a big push to implement them on more and more different types of goods, not just the higher cost items.
Still haven't been able to find much info on how much they cost.

Maybe it is a tracking device. You will never really know what it really is.

Where would it get its power from?

Interesting. That's kind of wild.

There are times when they fail to disable it even after paying for the item. There goes the idea of intelligence. You will be humiliated when it happens.

You're implying that those who put it there are intelligent? ;-)

Shoplifting is becoming bad.
