I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then can I look at a virgin?
Job 31:1
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Dear God, Creator of all things, we gather before You this new day with humility and gratitude in our hearts. We ask that You grant us the wisdom and strength to live according to Your teachings, as inspired by the book of Job.
Just as Job declared in his integrity, 'I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then can I look at a virgin?' (Job 31:1), may we also make firm commitments to our daily conduct. Help us to keep our eyes and hearts pure, turning away from evil and always seeking truth and righteousness in all our actions.
Guide us, Lord, so that we may discern between right and wrong, between light and darkness. May our choices and paths reflect Your will and promote peace and justice in our lives and in the community in which we live.
May we begin this day with the purpose of honoring You and our fellow man by spreading love, compassion, and kindness wherever we go. Empower us to be instruments of Your love in the world, guiding us along the path of truth and integrity.
In Your name, God of mercy and justice, we pray.
Amen.
Job 31:1 reminds us of the importance of maintaining purity and integrity in our hearts and actions. Job makes a covenant with his eyes, promising not to look lustfully at a woman. This highlights the need for self-control and the need to avoid sin, even in the most subtle areas of life. This passage challenges us to be vigilant in our moral conduct and to pursue holiness in all aspects of our lives.
