The Chase for 50/50
Last week, I placed a small bet on greatness. I was perusing through Fan Duel's lines looking for ways to exploit their freebies and bonuses in my pursuit of being the the MSTR of sports degen gambling. I saw they had some Shohei Ohtani specific lines. One that piqued my interest was Will Shohei Ohtani achieve 50/50?(meaning 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season). No player has ever accomplished this before. In fact, once Ohtani reached 43/43 he had done something no player had ever accomplished before, but we humans like round numbers so no one cares about a record of 43/43.
I believe Ohtani was at 46 homers and 45 SB with 19 games to go at the time of my bet. Currently he is at 48 homers and 49 stolen bases with 10 games to go. So, my bet is looking pretty good. It was only 5 dollars but if I win, a few more dollars to go into my winnings stash to sweep into bitcoin. Take that Fan Duel.
But besides the bet. What an incredible athlete? On route to 50 homers and 50 stolen bases, coming off of major elbow surgery that didn't permit him to pitch this entire year and still running away with the NL MVP award race.
If he stays healthy, I can't even imagine what his year will look like next year when he is back in the starting rotation again. Just a pleasure to watch his greatness. Even though I wish he had signed with the Jays and am still a bit bitter he didn't.
Sats for all,
GR
