How do we know links posted to stacker news are safe to click on? Couldn't someone pretty easily post a malicious link?

Well, in my case and my advice use all social platforms with a different device separate and your bitcoin wallets etc in different is not that hard, if you can afford other the yes I understand your point but trust me, best you can do it’s use separate devices each for its use case. You will sleep better. 😊

Only click those links which you see are from established websites. Possibly, you can wait for one or two comments which can easily say if the link is legit or not. Also, if the link is by some new stacker, refrain from it. But if it's from some top stacker, you can click.

would be simple to put some kind of bitcoin stealing virus on a bitcoiners computer by posting a malicious link that looks like it's from an established website onto a website frequented predominantly by bitcoiners. hmm

As long as your web browser is up to date, the risk of malware entering your system just by clicking on a link is relatively low. But if you want to further minimize the risk, you can disable JavaScript in your browser. However, this will limit the functionality of many websites. And if you are really paranoid you can run your web browser in a virtual machine.
Also you should not store your bitcoin savings on a computer connected to the internet. Preferably store them on a hardware wallet.
