I live in Cuba, and after COVID and a series of failed economic measures, this is the price of these services. Mobile data internet: (cheapest plan) 110 CUP = 0.34 USD (1.4GB) Home Internet (cheapest plan) 300 CUP = 0.94 USD 40 hours Haircut 150 CUP = 0.47 USD Coffee (cheapest) 50 CUP = 0.16 USD Gasoline 132 CUP = 0.41 USD Large pizza 500 CUP = 1.56 USD Anyone would say that it is wonderful to live with these prices, but the reality is that the average salary in Cuba, not to mention the minimum, is 4648 CUP = 14.53 USD using the informal currency market rate. You don't have to be a mathematician to know that it is one of the most expensive places in the world.
reply
It looks like the cup/usd rate is artificial, do you have a black market rate?
reply
That is the price according to the informal market rate 320 x USD
reply
Ok, but if I come as a tourist I will get official rate which is 24 and the hair cut will cost me 6.25 USD in this case?

If you come as a tourist it is 125x1, although there is 24x1 but it is only at the company level.
reply
Wow, that's crazy, so roughly 30.000 sats will get you average monthly salary in Cuba? If this is true, all Cubans must start posting on SN asap to earn these sats:)

Coffee (most basic) is far more expensive here, very cheapest is probably 3.25 USD. And most places will be 4
Haircut is expensive - $20 for a basic one on a sale. Good thing I can cut hair for my family
reply
In my previous address, I used to go to a haircut academy, the cost of the cut was ā‚¬3, the down side was that the process was way slower than in a normal place.

Also the price of ground beef (for the cheapest ground beef, at the cheapest grocery) just went up from 3.75/pound USD for the 20% fat (which is the most common) - to 3.99. So that's a 6.6% increase. Hope it goes down again.
Also maybe next time you do this, ask for the price of eggs. That's gone up a lot here recently, it's currently 30 cents for one egg. (That's the cheapest kind, but I just checked now, and there's another brand that is selling for 28 cents an egg. Need to switch!)
reply
12 eggs, normal ones..ā‚¬2,45 Ground beef ā‚¬9,43 / kg
reply
I'm about to write something on this, my costs are minimal, nothing compared.
Gasoline is maybe what is kinda close to other countries, but still lower.
In total I can get by at 10-30 dollars a day, so ideally I should have recurring, unstoppable income to match that, which this profile is all about...
