This is a solvable maze. The “सत् |SAT” series explores both Art and Proof of Work as a mystery practice. The Sanskrit character “sat” सत् - which has deep and complex meanings connoting “absolute truth,” “reality,” and “the essence which is unchangeable” lies at the center of the maze. By beautiful coincidence - if one believes in coincidences - the “sat” or “satoshi” (paying homage to bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto) is the name given to the smallest, immutable unit of a bitcoin (100M sats = 1 bitcoin) – which endures and does not change. Artistically, this piece is themed on CLEANSING and can be understood as a talisman for such – teardrops, raindrops, the Hand of Hamsa, the evil eye ward, and Istanbul’s Great Bazaar, Sun & Moon, and the Waning Crescent are among this piece’s guiding inspirations. Finally, there is Proof of Work in both the creation and experience of this work. As the artist, when creating such mazes, I do not know where I am going or what the maze will be, I simply follow where the maze leads. Through me, as the hand, the maze reveals what it wills. It is a random walk of creation which can never be fully understood and that cannot be fully contextualized until it is done. For the viewer, to solve the maze is your proof of work – did you find the center and what path did you take? In solving the maze there are many paths but only one destination, the Sat सत्, with all its meanings, the goal to be reached – a journey to the center in the pursuit of truth.
