The European Commission has announced a significant financial move aimed at bolstering Ukraine's defense efforts and reconstruction amid ongoing conflict. President Ursula von der Leyen revealed the transfer of €1.5 billion from immobilized Russian assets to a special peace fund. This fund will compensate EU nations for the military aid they have provided to Ukraine.
Von der Leyen emphasized the symbolic nature of using Kremlin funds to enhance security across Europe, stating, "There is no better symbol or use for the Kremlin’s money than to make Ukraine and all of Europe a safer place to live."
The funds will not go directly to Ukraine but will instead be channeled through the peace fund to ensure proper allocation and accountability.

"Peace fund", aka War fund

You cannot have long term peace with Russia without fighting back hard. That's their mentality, no difference between Putin and gopniks on the streets. If you kick them in the face, only then they start to respect you.
Problem with the Westerners understanding Russians is that they haven't grown up on the streets with regular fights with them.

do we really need to have this debate again? how many wars of aggression have NATO states, above all the UK and the USA, carried out since the end of the Second World War? please answer this first, then look at the historical background since the Maidan coup, the rearmament of the Ukrainian army into a NATO army and then think about it again, please. The problem here is that a lot of You guys do not see the geopilitical /ressource driven background of this. You do not understand how the military complex is working.

Don't spread false info that Maidan was a coup. This is what Russia wants you to believe, but it's completely false:
  1. Yanukovych left a country and abandoned his duties
  2. Verkhovna Rada voted to remove him from his office - all within Ukraine constitution
  3. Yanukovych Party of Regions also voted in favour of his removal

apparently we need to rehash the same debate where anyone supporting a ceasefire has fallen for Russian propaganda
reply
Russia has always used ceasefires just to regroup and attack again later. Like Ukraine 2014 and 2022.
reply
Less than Russia. They even do wars inside their country (Chechenia 1994 and 1999). And remember - Warsaw pact was the only military alliance in history where you invade member state (Czechoslovakia 1968). How can you compare that to NATO?
Maidan coup? How many Ukrainians you personally know? I don't know single one who would say it was a bad thing, and that it wasn't revolution (of course, revolutions are always lead by someone, but there should be critical mass in lower class for that to happen).
reply
Revolution or Coup? you are splitting hairs semantically
reply
It was revolution. Coup is when few people take over power, not when masses are involved.
For example, Bolshevik October Revolution of 1917 was coup, not revolution, as it involved only few hundred soldiers actually, rest was propaganda written later.
reply
What about February Revolution? was that revolution or coup?
reply
That was revolution.
Exactly

I view EU supporting Ukraine as the greatest mistake in modern times. And now they are making this mistake even bigger!
reply
these EU bureaucrats got so involved because they calculated all along that once again the United States would do the dirty work for them. but they will now pull out. now realism is coming into play - it will be interesting to see what happens.

This is not going to benifit EU in anyway. Putin will be more aggressive now.

It's still not clear to me whether this money is the dividends from Russian deposits or if it's actually the deposits themselves. Do you know anything about this? Thanks.
reply
So far, this has probably only involved dividends and interest payments.
reply
AFAIK it's only interest

Good thing, since its the most corrupt country in europe.. Well, since we stole that money, guess we all corrupt here in the EU now.. Shame im not close to the money machine.. Some elites will steal a lot of that money

It is terrible to see how the Europeans are trampling on trust in their own rule of law and international rules of the game, and in this way are jeopardizing any future with Russia for the time being.

Uhmm sir, did you forget that Russia invaded a sovereign European country in 21st century? Your response seems to lightheartedly ignore this fact.

You seam to ignore all the Minsk Agreements. You fail to realize both Merkel and Macron admitted they haven’t respected the agreements. Are you also ignoring these facts?
reply
Minsk Agreements were forced by Russia in their interests when Ukraine was weaker than it is now.
reply
47 sats \ 1 reply \ @fm 26 Jul
Forced to Germany? Forced to France? They all signed Maybe they are weak as Ukraine then
reply
Forced on Ukraine. Germany and France just wanted to not have war in Europe. They were fools. Now they start to admit that Poland and Baltics were right about Russia since forever. But we were called "russophobes" back then. Hmm, maybe millenia of history with wars against Moscow has teached us something?

Ok, are You a ukrainian bot? Or a fanboy of this Zelensky clown? What You are saying here is off the charts. There's no connection to reality or history whatsoever. I'm done with this bs. Talk to a therapist to heal Your russian phobia

For EU/USA the international law is like a menu.. They chose just what they like from..
Look at Olympics in Paris right now.. No Russia, no Belarus.. Yet, USA, Saudi Arabia, Israel, no restrictions.. Double standards everywhere
reply
That's decision by IOC, not EU or USA. And banning aggressors is nothing new, see Yugoslavia 1992, for example. And Russia was first banned even not for aggression, but because of state-sponsored doping.

Russia in it's present form must be destroyed, it's empire of evil!
reply
Bullshit
reply
No, it's not. And good thing is that it's slowly collapsing since mid-19th century (Crimean War).
reply
what are you talking about here? Ukraine is on the verge of collapse.
reply
Russia was bigger and more influential in mid-19th century. Since then it has become smaller and smaller. Not straight line to bottom, as with financial markets, but trend is clear. Most important there isn't even territory or military failures, but demographics.
reply
The EU and USA doing these things. It will only be a matter of time before they take parts of Ukraine and Russia as part of their spoils!
reply
I guess This fund aims to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities and reconstruction.
reply
So let more Ukrainians die... nice
