Always be....opening?
The other day I wrote a post about Luka and Kyrie being dominant closers making the Mavericks very hard to beat. They didn't need to close last night. Luka shot them out of the gates like a supersonic missile and they never looked back. So they can win with closers, they can win by frontrunning and leading the whole race. But can they beat a team that is going to take 35 open 3s a game and make them at a ridiculous clip? It remains to be scene. I am inclined to believe so. Boston is a better team but I trust Luka and Kyrie to get the job done more than the two Jays. Maybe I have just watched too many Celtic playoff collapses to believe they will actually finish this thing off. Holiday makes a big difference for them.
Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!
Oh ye of little faith. You all had the TWolves beating the Mavs in the pick 'em. Except our winner: @ContraMundum. Congrats on being the contrarian.
NBA finals pick 'em will be posted today but we will have to wait awhile to see who wins that one. A week before the series starts and then two days off between each game. It could be June 23 before we know who won.
Shame on us
All this talk about two basketball series that weren't really close and we are missing out on incredible East and West Finals in the NHL. In another riveting one goal game the Panthers took a 3-2 lead in their series against the Rangers last night (sorry @BTC_Bellzer). Where are the stacker sports hockey fans at? I know it feels like the season ends once the Leafs get eliminated. I will admit that is the case for me. It is like winning the stanley cup each year. But let's give the 4 teams left some love. They are playing some stellar hockey.
The batted ball x 2
Don't fret if hockey is not your thing. The T20 World Cup kicks off in a couple days and our resident cricket expert @Coinsreporter is running a great pool so we can all enjoy and learn some cricket. And of course our MLB survivor pool is still running strong. The week 10 pick submission post will be up shortly from @MLBofficialscorer.
Sats for all, GR
Luka and his Mavs closed the game in the first quarter last night.
I'm thinking White and Holiday could potentially proved to be problematic for Luka and Kyrie. But there's the saying that good offense always beats good defense. I think Porzingis is going to be key to Celtics' success. He's able to disrupt the lobs in the paint on D, which we saw Luka used multiple times with Lively and Gafford. He can also be a dangerous scoring threat. 1 week without any games during the playoffs is too long of a wait! Can't wait for the finals to start.

I agree to that if we're just talking about point guard+shooting guard duos. Like he said in the video, the biggest competition is probably Steph and Klay, and in terms of talent, I think Luka and Kyrie wins over them.
reply
Talented sure. Best is debatable. Let's see if they can win the title first before considering that.
reply
That's where I'm at. Steph and Klay are the most dangerous backcourt of all-time, until proven otherwise.
reply
Of course not best, just talented. Talent does not equate success. Steph and Klay are the best because they have the accomplishments to prove it, and will remain the best back court duo (in my opinion) until proven otherwise.

It should be a great series. I expect Celtics to be a much tougher matchup for the Mavs. I think Celts strategy will be to try to get up big in games so they don't come down to Luka and Kyrie vs Tatum and Brown at the end.

The Celtics won a bunch of close games in the ECF. It doesn't make me think they'll win the title, but I no longer think they'll lose because they blow a couple of close games.

I really think Holiday is the difference maker for them. How many games did he make a key play down the stretch to either swing the game their way or seal the deal. If Porzingis is back it will be interesting to see if they start him. I don't know if they want to mess with this dynamic they have with Horford right now. As long as Horford is playing well, I think they roll with him. If he goes 1-7 from 3 in game 1 and Porzingis is looking healthy and good then maybe they make the switch.

My concern about Jrue in this series is that Luka can physically bully him the way Butler did last year.

Lots of compelling matchups.
