From Conclusions Section:

149 (d) However, because he (Wright) advanced a deliberately false case and put forward deliberately false evidence until days before trial, he will recover only nominal damages.

150 Accordingly, I shall enter judgment for Dr Wright on the claim in the sum of £1

reply

Slightly more than a dollar. Not bad.

reply

yeah not bad at all. for some reason I thought this was going to go really badly... still what a colossal waste of money in attorney fees

reply

I'ld love to see how much they spent on attorney fees and costs related to this trial.

reply

That's the next part of this case. The judge still has to decide who's going to have to pay these costs...

reply

The High Court (in London, on Date: 5 July 2024) handed down a Worldwide freezing order against Craig Wright, in the sum of £1.548m, to support the recovery of Peter McCormack's legal fees.

See #599404.

reply

Ha ha ha ha ha :)

It's fucked that one can be found guilty for defamation even though the statement was false (i.e. he isn't satoshi). The UK is effectively saying that you can proclaim to be anyone you want and if anyone challenges that, it's defamation.

Nice to see that he only needs to pay Craig 5000 sats though.

reply

I believe this was a purposeful decision by the judge.

A “win” for £1 ensures that CSW can’t appeal, and continue to drag Peter through the courts which would bring him further financial hardship.

This ends the case and now the ball is in Peter’s court - as he could potentially counter-sue to recoup his legal costs if he desired.

reply

Good point!

reply

This fits in with the idea that someone can choose their personal pronouns and it's an offense to get them wrong.

reply

Perhaps one could claim to be the real Craig S. Wright and sue him for defaming oneself through years spent making the absurd claim of being Satoshi Nakamoto.

reply

Like a hermit crab.

reply

Is this a win for bitcoin?

reply

Bitcoin doesn't care.

reply

What is sad is the pressure he can put lot of pressure and stress on good people. Calvin Ayre is an old rich fool I don't know if he's persuaded by wright lies.

reply

This is the greatest thing to happen today. All of CSW's bullshit is only worth 1£.

I hope Peter send him his 1£ via a bitcoin payment to one of Satoshi's known addresses.

reply

that would be brilliant!!!

reply

What a farce.

reply

Wright is a liar and fraud.

reply

I got thorugh about 400 words of this and I suddenly realized how utterly fascinating the hp logo below my screen is. I was unable to read any farther. Pleqase could someone give me a summary of it all, did McCormack win? I sincerely hope so.

reply

Isn't this just a giant waste of resources, this is sho fiat, 2 grown as men bickering about something so meaningless and involving lawyers, and journalists, its ridiculous, is this really the bitcoin ecosystem that is mean to defund the clown world?

reply

who is funding the legal charges, who is in loss here, time and money. most unwanted dispute over nothing, why shouldn't the court rule these type of disputes unnecessary and fine the petitioner?

reply

xd

reply

Faketoshi should just quit and go back to Kangaroo Land.

reply

Has there ever been a civil case where the judgement was in BTC?
