By that logic, anyone who didn't buy bitcoin and sell it caused a loss to the IRS.

Isn't this the guy that created the Bitcoin Cash fork and gets upset that nobody uses it?
He wrote a book called Hijacking Bitcoin. He's good friends with Craig Wright. He registered Bitcoin dot com to trick people going to the wrong website.
Yeah, sorry, I don't feel any sympathy for this guy.

oh man, if he didnt report it is kind of his fault...
I know it doesnt seem right, but if he had reported and paid all the tax on it, he would be having this trouble.

Whenever I ask tax questions in BTC spaces I'm usually met with political screeds than actual advice.

You do need to report your gains and assets though.
When he was leaving the country, he should have reported all the assets he was taking with him.
Bitcoin was one of them. He did report some of his assets, so he knew what he was doing when he under reported his holdings.

Charged with Tax Fraud?
What? Isn't it something that knowingly or unknowingly everyone has been doing?
So, why don't the governments charge everyone and send everyone behind bars?

Other reasons aside, going after a guy for $50 million is a better use of time and money than going after someone for $362.17.

Yes, I agree.
This actually makes me more doubtful for next time when someone loudly says 'equality in the eyes of law is democracy'.
