I thought my first post on the ~Science territory would be biomimicry. But since I found my notes on biophilic design, I’m going with the flow.
What is biophilic design?
Anxiety is a social pandemic these days. Stress levels are skyrocketing. To address these issues, biophilic design aims to integrate natural elements and patterns into office buildings and shopping malls because we all know how important touching grass is.
Features of biophilic design
Examples include:
- sky gardens & terraces
- vertical gardens & green roofs
- solar panels
- energy-efficient lighting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems & smart controls
- cross-ventilation & other cooling strategies such as stack effect
Examples of biophilic design
I patronised the AMU Plaza in Kumamoto City, Japan last year and took these stunning pictures.
