I’m not the kind of person to chillax during travelling, so I insisted on going to Spain and Italy on my honeymoon. Ofc I knew that happy wife, happy life, so for our 3rd wedding anniversary, we visited Maldives. One of the most memorable weeks I spent in my life, Snorkelling, getting a massage, sunrise yoga, great meals, sipping alcohol while watching the sunset, frolicking in the water. It’s amazing how engaged I was throughout the trip even though I was stuck on an island.
Here’s what I wrote about the trip back then:
To be honest, the Maldives would not have been on my travel radar, if it weren't for the wife. I think an important part of travel for me is getting to know the local people - and being waited on hand and foot by the Maldivians would imply a lop-sided relationship from the start, haha.
But I have fallen in love with the Maldivian brand of hospitality. They are attentive without being overwhelming, chatty without being intrusive. Their unassuming character and cheerful disposition make them gracious hosts. I'm most impressed by how they always take a moment to utter a greeting and ask "How's your day/food/stay/evening?" And this service from the heart is witnessed in every staff I encounter, from the Villa host right down to the sweeper who rakes up the dead leaves.
I can only hope that I will remember to treat people with a bit more empathy and enthusiasm when I resume teaching in July, haha
Thank you, Baros Maldives staff, for your genuine smiles and ready laughter. And for making us feel at home and at ease
over to you!
Sounds like an awesome trip! One awesome memory I like to hold on to is when I took trains from Hong Kong to Berlin.
Trans Siberian Railroad is a dream trip of mine.
Is your son into travelling? Where would you take him to explore (besides the mountains)?
He is. Except for pandemic, and we hiked and camped a good bit then, we've been on the move his whole life. No planes, yet.
Thanks mate! I appreciate how much info you detailed there. Train rides are the best for getting up close n personal with the locals!
Going to Bitcoin Miami was the best trip of TheWildHustle's life.
Went with the Wife, nice hotel with a heated pool, great weather at the beach.
Meeting bitcoiners for the first time, Long road trip with memorable music.
Partying and dancing with drink in hand, positive vibes and no set backs.
I saw @car sitting at a table near the open source stage, walked up, patted him on the back and said "Damn whats up thriller" and kept it pushing.
This is wicked. I hope to meet Stackers irl too!
2019 en Chine avant que la Covid-19 vienne paralysé le monde Guangzhou est un paradis du shopping, j'ai trouver presque tout ce que je voulais acheter et j'ai un moment agréable
I have been to Beijing and Shanghai before, but not Guangzhou. Hopefully some day!
Il faut visité un jour vous allez aimer
It must be cool to travel light n learn that what you have is enough for you to get through most things, even storms xP
And still there are these kind greek people that would always help You out of a mess.
Maldives are somewhere my dad wants to visit at some point.
My biggest trip was an academic visit to China that lasted a couple of weeks. Most of my Chinese friends have told me that I've seen more of China than they have.
You made me reminisce my trip to Shangri La! Simplicity at its best.
https://m.stacker.news/22768
Would you visit China again?
Yes, but not until the pollution problem improves. There was a lot of very interesting stuff that I'd love to share with my family. Maybe we'll do a river cruise someday.
I think we are all living vicariously through @siggy47 now haha
Certainly not with the off-boarding process. That's awful.
Italy is definitely an unforgettable trip. The beauty of the mountains and cities is indescribable.
I went to Italy for my honeymoon. Just learning how to order gelato n spaghetti n oxtail steak gave me so much joy haha
Great post and photos!
Best time: Summer study in Europe split between Vienna and London with side trips to Budapest, Amalfi Coast Italy, and Holland.
Best trip: 21 Days Southeast Asia Tour, Thailand (with walk across to Myanmar), Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam
Also John Muir Trail in Yosemite High Country and Tahoe Rim Trail hikes
I think you have covered more of Southeast Asia than most Singaporeans haha. Any particular country that struck out in your mind?
Always wanted to go back to spend more time in Laos, but loved all.
Japan
Amazing to see what a country can look like when not ravaged by colonialism.
From Kyoto to Hiroshima just rich with culture.
And the people were so nice. Getting help from a random stranger when I got lost looking for an attraction. Then they ate dinner with us and finally helped us get back on the correct train to make it back to our hotel.
It changed my whole world perspective and made me embrace international travel.
The Japanese really go out of their way to help someone, huh? More commendable because they don’t speak much English
I have mentioned before that the first few years of my son’s life we split time between Toronto and LA. All my best trips were during that time heading out to California to see my wife and son after not seeing them for weeks at a time while working in Toronto.
I can feel the joy emanating from your words
South America, muy bueno
I have always wanted to visit South America. Maybe some day!
camping in an islands away from civilization for almost a week with my buddy was the best out of town experience.
Really conducive for those HTHT chats, not just with your buddy but also with nature
My best destinations so far are The Cyclades and UAE
Do these two places evoke similar or very different vibes?
Of course they had totally different vibes in so many things - they are situated in different continents, the religion and culture of local people are also different etc

The blues are so breathtaking
If that sea is beautiful
Wow! Maldives is an amazingly great destination for couples. I have craving for it and it's our neighbour so I must be visiting them.
Thanks for sharing the exquisites of Maldives.
My best trip happened to be in the lap of the graet Himalayas. There's a place called Manali and I haven't seen a more beautiful (naturally) place than it.
People say that Kashmir is the heaven on Earth and I being so near to it, haven't visited till now. https://youtu.be/D_bgCyM1nRY?si=6ScnvRcgCW7YM-H6
I went to Kashmir in 2010. There were armed soldiers all over the streets, but once I reached the lodging, I felt immense peace n serenity that has been hard to replicate since then
Mushrooms, Hero dose.
Hero dose is a place?
in your mind, yes

I have fond memories of my Vietnam trip 10 years ago. I enjoyed the diverse food, the simplicity of life and the tropical climate that so much reminded me of my childhood. I spent a week in Budapest last year, and used the opportunity to visit Satoshi's statue. I absolutely loved the place. Eastern Europe is the real deal!
Many years ago my wife and myself did a 500 km road trip in a small Vespa, from Pontevedra to Picos de Europa, stoping in beautiful small towns and only using national road.
It was a great adventure and further proof that to travel and have a good time you don't need the perfect vehicle, just the desire to travel and the right wife!
