I recently wrote a piece entitled 'The “Next Big Thing” (after bitcoin)' and got a reply to the writing from someone who said "I'd wager a decentralized namespace protocol is going to be the "next big thing," but it may take a while before a good design comes along"
This actually sounds about right to me, but I don't know enough of the history of what has been tried, what has failed, what has yet to be proven successful.
It seems to me like it would require some social consensus building of the type Ordinals/Inscriptions demonstrated.
What are the best attempts? What are the remaining problems to be solved?
