Hello Stackers!
It's Monday so it's another installment of "Meta Music Mondays" and it's March so we're doing movies.
I recently saw Dune 2 (it's phenomenal go check it out) and once again the master of his craft Hanz Zimmer has put together an incredible soundtrack befitting that movie.
So here's the Gom Jabbar by Hanz Zimmer performed live.

Peter Gabriel - Down To Earth - WALL-E

This absolute gem from Peter is tucked away at the end of WALL-E. Anyone who knows Pixar, know that they have great closing credits and this track plays over them. I hadn't heard from him in years and then delivers this classic.
reply
This was a fantastic closing credits track. Just like "friend in me" Pixar always nail this.
reply
This is my favourite closing credit sequence and not just because of Peter, the credits actually continue the WALL-E story after they land back down on earth. Never leave a Pixar film early or you'll probably miss stuff like this.
reply
Agree... There's always a little tidbit at the end. It's good to get closure on the story after the credits.

Two absolutely massive tracks. I'm not surprised you couldn't choose and had to go for both. But why choose when you can have both!?
reply
Yeah, you nailed it. Couldn't decide so had to do both. Ironically both were Roger Moore, Bond films.
reply
For bond... For me, it's always brosnan. He just oozed class. Him #1 for me #2 and it's a really close second was Connery. Then Moore at #3. But that's the joys of movies and music, we can all have different preferences and still enjoy stuff.

How many soul music legends are in this band? Plus Cab Calloway! https://youtu.be/FrLZoQUl2mQ?si=obQa8viemo6Spt63
reply
This movie is one of my all time favourites and it's largely because of the music.
I also didn't hate BB2k and I really enjoyed 634-5789. Fantastic music for a fantastic set of movies. https://youtu.be/XY-t_lJ6GHE?si=TbgG4ykFxEjcKny4

Jon Bon Jovi - Blaze Of Glory

Classic JBJ song from the film Young Guns 2 (1990), has hints of "Wanted Dead or Alive", which they had originally wanted for the film, but JBJ said he'd do something more apt for a western.
reply
This song is huge. This and Dead or alive. Two huge tracks from huge movies. I was belting this at the top of my lungs on way to the fiat mine the other day.
reply
It's been a while since I've played and it is classic and has an epic feel to the song. I always thought after Slippery When Wet that there was hints of country in some of their songs.

The Full Monty (1997) | Hot Stuff (The Dole Queue Scene)

The Full Monty is a 1997 British comedy film directed by Peter Cattaneo, starring Robert Carlyle, Mark Addy, William Snape, Steve Huison, Tom Wilkinson, Paul Barber and Hugo Speer. The screenplay was written by Simon Beaufoy. The film is set in Sheffield in the North of England during the 1990s, and tells the story of six unemployed men, four of them former steel workers, who decide to form a male striptease act (à la Chippendale dancers) in order to make some money and for the main character, Gaz, to be able to see his son. Gaz declares that their show will be much better than the renowned Chippendales dancers because they will go "the full monty"—strip all the way—hence the film's title.

Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel - Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me)

The Soundtrack to Full Monty is soooo good!!
reply
This track always puts a smile on my face. It's just great.
reply
This one also. No evidence, I have no idea what you're talking about. Nope. Never happened 🤣🤣
reply
I'm sure somewhere every man on the planet is destroying any and all evidence of something that may or may not have occured whilst drunk one time with this song playing. 🤣

Brassed Off

Brassed Off is a 1996 British comedy-drama film written and directed by Mark Herman and starring Pete Postlethwaite, Tara Fitzgerald and Ewan McGregor. The film is about the troubles faced by a colliery brass band, following the closure of their pit.

Great film. Unusual to see English working class history portrayed in a sympathetic light ..
reply
I love the film. I'll be honest I have not seen it in years - due for a rewatch sometime! It has a more realistic, gritty and emotional edge to it than say The Full Monty (which I do love in its own right and have watched MANY times!! hehe) whilst still retaining the humour. Oh that does it, I'm gonna have to post Full Monty now. Let's make it Yorkshire film day!
reply
I dont think I've ever seen this.🤔 But I'll have to check it out. Song sounds great.
reply
It's an emotional rollercoaster, acting is out of this world and the brass band music is a pure joy. Cinema at its finest. I haven't watched this in years but will have to hunt it out. Just make sure no one can see you for the hospital and final scenes, dust in your eyes stuff 😢
reply
It's one of those... No my eyes are fine, the whole world just got blurry movies then?
reply
Yes definitely one of those. Highly recommend, you just have to see this @Public_N_M_E !!
reply
One of the great films of the '90s and still holds up today. Pete Postlethwaite is brilliant, the band playing to Pete's character whilst in hospital and his acceptance speech at the band competition finals are cinema at its finest 😭

The Long Riders - Ry Cooder

My last for today honestly, but I just remembered this and I couldn't wait till next week. One of the finest westerns ever made with an amazing soundtrack by Ry Cooder. The film is about the James gang and all the brothers on that hand featuring a cat of tell life brothers. Beautifully filmed with some epic sequences, absolutely breathtaking.
reply
The James gang?
I'm sure they're named after the James gang, but I couldn't resist.
