I remember rushing home from school to catch DBZ on toonami.
Did not want to miss a second. Had everything ready before the recap started.
The frieze saga was my childhood. Gohan and Krillan collecting giant dragon balls on planet namek.
Goku training in his capsule corp ship, taking forever to get to namek, yet loving every moment of it.
My childhood wasn’t great. This was one of the few things that I looked forward to at the time. It was the rare thing I could not wait for. That I rushed towards.
Rest in peace and thank you for the joy and reprieve.

I get it. DBZ on Toonami was the best part of the day for many of us. The Frieza saga was the bomb, right? Even with a not-so-great childhood, these moments were pure joy. Let's remember the good times and say thanks for the awesome memories.

dude gave an entire generation so much joy and reshaped shonen anime in the west, the saiyan saga will always be my favourite from Z and dragonball, the power scaling went a bit nuts after that

What I remember the most was "FIVE MINUTES UNTIL NAMEK EXPLODES" from the Frieza saga. That 5 minutes lasted 5 or 6 episodes... Makes you wonder how long is 5 minutes on the planet Namek.
Great artist, great creator. I read the Dragonball manga and watched the anime. The anime was also what I looked forward to everyday after school as a kid. Rest in peace Akita.
