Nina Simone (born Eunice Kathleen Waymon; February 21, 1933 – April 21, 2003) was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, composer, arranger and civil rights activist. Her music spanned styles including classical, folk, gospel, blues, jazz, R&B, and pop.

Cracking song. Nina is definitely music royalty. The songs been covered multiple times and utilised in advertising a bunch. Still to this day everyone wants to use her work in some capacity. Great artist.

Enjoy the epic 80s rock ballad sung by Marie Fredriksson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCC_b5WHLX0

It's surely hard to beat this power ballard! Definitely need to turn it up!

What a banger. She's got such great vocals. Absolute icon. This is the kind of track you turn up to 11.

I saw Cam live last year at the long road festival. Amazing singer, and really engaging with the crowd. I didn't know any of her stuff and she stepped in pretty last minute to cover a headliner who unfortunately pulled out. And she killed it. Was really great.
Another band I discovered at that festival was called Chapel Hart. You may enjoy them. Try this on for size and let me know what you thought? https://youtu.be/5M6vU1uS8pI?si=pQ3DhEOS7GV0Bl0q

I love country, it's the best. The songs are all lying, cheating, loving, drinking, fishing, hunting, tractors, pick-up trucks, leaving, getting back together.
reply
I never understood some people's dislike of country. Can it be samey, sure... But the whole music industry is guilty of copy&pasting a formula that works... And it works because people like it.
I got a lot of time for country.
reply
There are some great women in country and I could go crazy on this post today... but I don't want to spam the heck out of the thread On the other hand, it's the Female singers post... 🤔😂
reply
Yaknow 02... Perhaps, maybe, you could put out weekly content of Women in Country? A similar thing to @grayruby doing "Sounds of the great white north" and @JerryGarcia with his "vintage tune of the day" just to name two. Feature an artist per post perhaps? 🤔
If weeklys aren't your bag, feel free to keep utilising dailys and themed stuff I put out to promote great songs like you've been doing. But don't count yourself out as a content provider just yet, it seems you've got a passion you could grow into a segment 😉
reply
I could get behind a women in country post 👖👢😃
reply
I look forward to seeing it. 👊
We got a whole month to get through 🤣 but... But ... March is coming and maidens of music has a great ring to it 😉 perhaps our ladies with lungs get a double feature.
April's a girl's name 🤔 perhaps that's a close enough link to keep our sirens of sound rolling for a 3rd month?? 😜
Then you got May and June also girls names. I could keep this up for ages.
Possibilities are endless.

And for those who might not appreciate country as much as some of us, here are a couple of iconic Shakira tracks from the early 2000s
Underneath Your Clothes from the album Laundry Service
Whenever, Wherever
I will stop now and save more Femme Fatale until next Monday! hehe

You're on fire today 02 😜 some awesome submissions. Shakiras hips not only dont lie but theyre hypnotic. One of my favourites of hers is Chantaje https://youtu.be/6Mgqbai3fKo?si=5z83AAOmVPxKUgmg
But in light of it being superbowl hangover day. Im also going to drop Shakira and JLo at the half time show!!
Enjoy!

Whenever, wherever and hips don't lie! I love the belly dance & pacific island booty shake vibes

It was a great half time performance. Probably my 2nd favourite behind prince.

You know how to get to me eh 03? Bring me that sweet Santana sound and a female vocalists and I'm eating out the palm of your hand 🤣🤣. Amazing submission.

This is a classic and she has such a great voice and his playing is incredible

You might remember singer Nico who guest sings on The Velvet Underground's debut album. She was in that memorable elevator scene with Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison in The Doors movie.
reply
Ooooooooo nice. Bonus points for a track by the name of Femme Fatale 👊

An album that really changed things for many musicians. Give it a whirl if you've not heard it. If you're not familiar, the album art was by Andy Warhol. He didn't produced the band as many people think - (he really wasn't hands-on)
Guitarist, singer Lou Reed left to become a solo artist and Bowie, who earlier tried (but failed) to be part of Warhol's retinue, was able to befriend and produce his Reed - producing classics like 'Walk on the Wild Side'
reply
I saw Warhol's signature on the video but didn't put 2 & 2 together 😂. I've heard of Lou Reed. Is it the same Lou Reed who did "Perfect day"??

A little Eyes Set to Kill for me this week https://youtu.be/fjkXdKow0_s?si=VL22ee4J7P5KTMOn

Wasn't familiar with this. But I really enjoyed it. I got a sorta Lacuna Coil or The Pretty Reckless vibe out of them. Not quite In This Moment but definitely headed that direction.
Speaking of ITM Maria Brink needs some recognition as a Maiden of Music.
reply
I actually saw them supporting lacuna coil
reply
Haha what're the chances that that's where my mind went 😂. I'll bet that was a wicked gig.

Kate Bush - This Woman's Work

Legend of the industry.
Fun fact (sorta) she lives (or lived, unsure if she's still there) just down the road from where I grew up. Mad world really. Buddy of mine had a job as a postie for a while and used to deliver to her place all the time. Gorgeous property.
reply
Agree, she's definitely a legend. I find her vocals in this track so haunting. The complexity in her vocals is very appealing, so carefully and precisely executed. And great story about your buddy!!
reply
She is capable of doing something with her vocals that almost sounds like a cry. It's really emotive, she's a master of her craft no doubt about it. Everything about her placement and how she chooses to manipulate her voice is calculated and deliberate to convey the lyrics in such a beautiful manner.
reply
After the Roy Orbison cover of this song yesterday, here is Martina McBride with a fantastic rendition
And to go full on country hehe, here is her beautiful cover of a very old Tammy Wynette song, Till I can make it on my own

WOW she hits those notes so well!!

reply
Wow those notes are 🔥🔥🔥 she's got stunning vocals.
I'd heard the name before but I don't think I'd actually listened to her stuff. She's fantastic. Great submission 02.
reply
It is my theory that most metalheads end up being closet country-lovers, they just have to admit it 😜😂🤣🤣🤣
