I downloaded Fountain last year but never got to benefit from it. But seems that Fountain 1.0 was launched last December. I can finally earn from this app showcasing curated podcasts from passionate Bitcoiners.
It’s easy to use Fountain. Basically you choose a podcast that you want to listen to. If you need an extra dose of motivation to incorporate it into your day, watch out for the “Earning” icon. When it turns orange and spins steadily, shout Hurray! You will be awarded some sats for being a listener.
If you are not the sort who rolls with the punches, here’s the thing to take note. You don’t get to earn sats every day. Sometimes you will touch the void.
I’m actually fine with that, because the adrenaline and endorphins coursing through my body whenever I score a paying day just uplift my spirits. Like, this morning I listened happily to a podcast for thirty minutes while doing household chores.
I don’t mind the randomised process of scoring sats. In a similar vein, usually I will get 1 sat per minute, but there was a memorable occasion in which I garnered 3 sats per minute. 3 times the pleasure!
I had to exercise a little bit of patience though. Specifically, I had to stack 100 sats before I could be eligible for withdrawal. The withdrawal process was easy. I just had to copy the LNURL invoice and paste it on my Zebedee wallet.
You can see that I withdrew 29 sats this morning. Not bad for a good morning start!
I have a love hate relationship with fountain. I love listening to podcasts and the value for value model. I hate how the app crashes often and I’m not able to remove the sats to my lightning wallet.

I have been quite lucky in this regard, I guess. I have always been able to cash out haha

The new UI took me a little bit to get used to, but overall functionality of the app seems significantly improved. For instance, in the past I often ran into the problem when trying to play a podcast that it would take 5+ seconds before it would start to play, and occasionally I'd wait indefinitely and it just wouldn't work. Now it seems to consistently play pretty much immediately, which is VERY much appreciated.
Boosting episodes and liking comments is addicting. I haven't delved into creating clips yet, but I do occasionally appreciate listening to those that others have created, especially if it's a topic that I'm interested in from a podcast that I don't already listen to. If you like bitcoin content, there's a LOT of it on Fountain but there's plenty of other stuff, too. With time and a bit more refinement, I can see lots of podcast users (and creators) migrating to Fountain.
The opportunity to listen to promoted podcasts to earn is also pretty cool: creators can pay to boost their show and listeners can get paid for listening to something they otherwise might not listen to. It's a great incentive to find new content, even if I'm not always interested in the particular podcast or subject that it's covering.
I have a 50-minute commute so I usually listen to Fountain on my way to and from work. On the rare occasion that I cannot find an episode I want to listen to on Fountain, I listen to audiobooks. (I recently started Lyn Alden's "Broken Money," and it's outstanding.) My commute has become far less frustrating as I focus more on consuming useful information and less on the idiotic behavior of certain drivers. Rather than trying to get from point A to point B as fast as possible, it feels like time well-spent that would otherwise be wasted. All of which has the positive benefit of encouraging me to take my time and drive slower, saving me money on gas. So Fountain is actually benefiting me beyond just paying me sats for listening!

Not short.. around 65km each way.. with low traffic i manage to do around 45 min each way. 3 days a week. So even when the app doesnt give sats, i keep using it..

Fountain is great. The convenience of YT keeps pulling me away but it's important to ford again the waters of freedom tech and embrace the unique benefits that can be found. Sat boosts are key here but yes earning also a neat possibility.

That’s a good point! When we support Fountain, we stand for decentralisation and autonomy of content!

fount is pretty good. the latest ui improvements make it easier to find new episodes although still a bit clunky vs. spotify.

I’m sure future iterations of fountain will be better and better!

I've been using it since its first launch. The early state of Fountain gave you sats like crazy. I even earned more than 5k in one sitting. Then it kept "upgrading" and changing constantly to the state we are in now. Actually I believe the current model is more sustainable and it keeps me hooked to use it daily just for that dopamine hit when the orange icon starts spinning.
