Context

So many creators that are on Geyser have projects that aim to leave a positive impact on the world.

Problem

They're looking for more ways to reach the bitcoin community to tell their stories, and to interact with the Bitcoin community; this includes getting feedback, connecting with them, explaining further the problems they're trying to solve.

Proposal idea

Start doing creator AMAs on StackerNews every week or so.

Implementation

It could be hosted on Geyser, so we can help orchestrate the whole thing, 100% sats go to the creators. You can expect to see creators making new documentaries, videogames, an educational community or circular economy, a bitcoin meetup in a particular country, or any other awesomely weird and unexpected project.
What does the StackerNews community think, should we do it or not bother?

I thought I knew what you meant by this ...
It could be hosted on Geyser
but I'm not sure what this means.

I'm down for it. Sounds great if it is what I think it is. You don't need our permission to run experiments like this. @benwehrman is the founder of this ~AMA territory and they might have an opinion.

If you're interested we'd love to get you involved in this if you're interested! Prob the best way is joining our Discord: https://discord.gg/ugxtDpRV and we can talk more in there :)
reply
Happy to look into it, what kind of involvement did you have in mind?
reply
would it be ok if we host an AMA in the AMA territory? :)
reply
Absolutely! I'm only a "mod" in the sense that I keep an eye on things, and delete the spam/irrelevant posts that occasionally show up.
Have at it!

How do we know that the creator is the actual creator? So for ex, if Maxis club (https://geyser.fund/project/maxisclub) creates a project, how do we know that it's him and not some random dude posing as him? There is no way to see that they login with their social profile on SN, or am I missing something?
If this is the case, Geyser could host it and FW sats to the creator wallet... it's quite hacky :P

Hmmm I'm not exactly sure what the verification protocol is here. Tagging in @k00b @kr, they will know.

I kind of do these things head-first and adapt as I go. In all likelihood one of us would detect impersonation. But if you all concoct a scheme to do so automatically, I'd be happy to help support it.
Do you think using a ~geyser or ~AMA would be most appropriate?
reply
Would love to have it in ~AMA! The creator would just have to use the proper title format "[Short description of who they are], AMA"

I believe SN and Geyser partnership was one of the things we were discussing way back when we were trying to figure out have to find worthy projects for Satsraisers.

Yes. @k00b talked about it, I think.

The main blocker was being able to forward sats to Geyser projects' ln address (e.g. project@geyser.fund) directly, which SN still is not allowing you to FW to wallets outside of SN.
So we'd have to either
  1. hack it by receiving sats in Geyser SN wallet and then sending out the sats to the project,
  2. SN could allow funds to flow to @geyser.fund ln addresses.

@k00b, can you add a ~geyser territory, and I can get a creator on here for next week. lmk if possible

Oh you must have missed! You can make your own territory now.
reply
oh yes i'd missed it

I wish the poll would require a reason when people vote no.
Or be customized however. Requiring a reason for either way, one way, or none.
Perhaps we can do sentiment analysis over the reasons to better visualize voters' opinions

This sounds like a great idea! Let's see what happens :)
I think the biggest value here is for
  • SN users to have fun learning about interesting projects, ask great questions and provide great suggestions
  • Creators to get great feedback, learn new ideas and get more sats for their causes. There is some chance that folks reading the AMA may actually volunteer or try helping the projects more.
Also the specifics of how you implement this "process" matter. If I understand correctly you are suggesting that:
  • geyser SN account creates new SN post once a week that introduces the specific creator? (geyser team takes care of the introduction, maybe including small summary, ideas for questions, maybe inline picture...)
  • creators need to have a SN account to be able to reply to the posts (how is this going to be organized? What's the cross-app UX for this? Are creators going to get SN accounts automatically?)
  • after geyser creates the post, the creators get somehow notified (how will they know to read the questions?)
  • folks will ask questions and zap the creator (how are the sats going to be forwarded to the creators? Does SN already support forwarding sats to outside of SN?)
  • which SN territory are you going to use? ~AMA? ~geyser? other?
  • How are you going to raise visibility for the AMA happening?
Is there anything that you wish SN would do better for you to be able to do this?

Great questions, @nout!
As per the process, I agree it matters a lot and it's still not clear what's best..
geyser SN account creates new SN post once a week that introduces the specific creator? (geyser team takes care of the introduction, maybe including small summary, ideas for questions, maybe inline picture...)
We want to make it a smooth experience, that's why were thinking of Geyser creating the AMA thread, introducing the creators, educating creator about SN, helping them create an account, notifying them, etc. as you said.
With this approach, the problem is that we'll need to custody the funds, we can't FW sats directly via SN to the project@geyser.fund. Which, makes this approach quite poor UX.
The alternative is to use a ~geyser channel and allow the creators to craft the entire AMA themselves. This would be preferable for Geyser and the creators, as we don't need to manage funds. Geyser can support/guide creators on how to do it. The problem is the incoming funds would still be stuck in their SN wallet and not count towards their Geyser campaigns.
How are you going to raise visibility for the AMA happening?
Geyser can help in marketing the AMA event across social media.
