Highly recommend the BEMA podcast. It gives translation a whole other level. I started from Episode 1.

oops I meant Bible in a Year** Podcast that breaks down the Bible into 365 segments. Each segment is about 15 minutes of reading and 5 minutes of analysis.

The bible I trust the most is the NET, but you have to read as much as you can and contrast information, the truth is probably scattered.

I like the ESV for most reading however I have been enjoying the NET translation lately - the footnotes are wild.

I like the NET because of it's translation notes. They give you a glimpse into what goes into the decision to render words one way or another.
