He could however, endorse another candidate and that could result in that person being more likely to be elected.
It looks like he "stepped down" earlier today: Bukele places personal secretary as interim president as he runs for reelection in El Salvador

Constitutions are words on a piece of paper, they mean nothing if people don't follow them and they aren't enforced by the people. US politicians violate the constitution all the time and nothing is done about it.
