Two weeks into our double elimination survivor pool and we bid farewell to @BlokchainB: your watch has ended.
We had at least two excellent late games: Houston/New Orleans and Phoenix/LA were very exciting down the stretch.

  • Hawks (5-3) @ Pistons (2-8)
  • Pacers (6-3) @ 76ers (7-1)

I'm taking the Lakers, but there are several nice choices here.
Make your picks below.
Hawks

Risking it all following @grayruby...interesting choice.

Can never go wrong with Dominique Wilkins he is the human highlight reel. I am a bit concerned about that Bill Laimbeer guy on the Pistons though. Tough in the paint.
reply
Laimbeer would have been awesome in the modern NBA (or he would have been suspended indefinitely). His game was way ahead of its time.
reply
The greatest worst sports game of all time.
reply
That's amazing!
reply
Someone gave that to me for Christmas one year. The game was pretty bad but it was actually quite fun if you play with someone else because there are no fouls so my buddies and I used to play and just spend the entire game pushing each other around.
reply
It reminds me a lot of the hockey games from that era.
My only goal is to limit the amount of shit I receive when I get eliminated. I will continue to piggyback either your pick or his.
reply
As long as you weren't counting on a big night from Bob Petit
reply
Shrewd decision by Siggy. Never in doubt.
reply
You almost took half the pool down with you.
reply
Horseshoes and hand grenades and all.
reply
I can watch Timberwolves and Warriors or Clippers and Nuggets. Tough call.
reply
I hope you chose Warriors. That was a crazy start.
reply
Missed the start but that's the game I am watching now.
76ers
reply
Got it.
I sure didn't enjoy the experience of picking them last week, but they did win,
reply
Thunder
reply
They are dominating.
reply
Finally, an interesting pick

Hawks
reply
Almost everyone is on the Hawks this week.
reply
haha not so much on the Hawks but against Pistons
reply
Fair enough. The Pistons don't seem that bad this year. They at least have some fun players and they're really big.
reply
I'll take the Hawks.
reply
Nice choice. I'm holding on to them incase they make a run into the playoff rounds.

Even after tonight?
reply
Yes? Maybe?

Question about the pool / picking rules. Can you pick the same team more than once? Or can you only pick a team once and have to pick another team for future picks (no repeats)?
reply
Can you pick the same team more than once?
No. That's where the strategy comes in with survivor pools. You might want to look ahead a little bit, but a lot of people just take the best remaining pick each week.
reply
Cool. Thanks for clarifying. Gotta save the best for last then. I'm glad I haven't pick the Nuggets nor the Celtic yet hehe...
reply
Another wrinkle for this new tournament is that a lot of people expect the younger up-and-coming teams to want it more. I don't know if that's right, but it is why I'm picking the good veteran teams early on. The exception being the Nuggets, who I want to save because they're so good they might win the whole thing whether or not they care about it.
I'm hesitant to pick teams like OKC or Orlando, though.
reply
I might consider OKC depending on their opponent, because SGA is the real deal and Chet is probably being overlooked due to all the Wemby hype. But I will probably not pick Orlando, because I don't even know the players on their team except for maybe Cole Anthony.
they're so good they might win the whole thing whether or not they care about it.
I know right? I mean, their best player cared more about horses than basketball and still got a chip plus finals mvp. What a team!
a lot of people expect the younger up-and-coming teams to want it more.
I don't think so. These guys are all super competitive and would want to win regardless. Especially this tournament is a new thing.
reply

After the Lakers/Suns game, I agree with this too.
reply
I take the Mavs
reply
I haven't watched them yet this season. Should I stop being skeptical of them?
reply
Luka had been playing lights out so far this season. Kyrie is also doing his thing averaging about 20pts a game. Vs the Pelicans, I think they should be able to take care of business. I don't really see anyone on the Pelicans stopping Luka, as their defense isn't that solid and gives up quite a bit of open looks. The Mavs isn't that strong on defense as well, but they can clearly out score the Pels.
I like my chances picking the Mavs. But who knows? Ingram or/and Zion might have a monster game or Luka might have a shit game and give me my first loss pick. That's why we love sports, right? The surprise and the fact that anything could happen.
reply
We still need picks from @POTUS, @elnosh, @Wumbo, and @Chep.
reply
Thank you! Your mentions are a life saver
reply
Forget again and I'll give you the Grizzlies.
