Brainstorming.
Have you noticed: Accountability is one aspect that did not transfer very well from real life to the internet.
- We can often hold people accountable in real life (IRL).
- But on SM it's a lot more difficult, given how unreachable those user can be, for instance geographically. Also, it's a lot easier to be active but anonymous on the internet vs. IRL.
I see a big problem with this.
Currently, the incentive mechanism on SM is skewed towards producing a ton of low quality content posts. In return, it rewards with attention and followers, which one can monetize. But it also produces noise, manipulation and scam.
Pretty quickly the public gets overwhelmed and desensitized so now enter FUD & FOMO posts to get more views and clicks. The vicious cycle. You get the idea
- So the incentive: gaining followers & profiting from the followers, ego / being right delusion, gaining attention, etc.
- Downside? Not much currently, even if you're not anonymous. You can say or promise whatever you want, in public, and the worst thing that will happen is some loss of credibility.
Wouldn't it be nice to improve this experience?
- Better signal-to noise ratio. More quality content; less FUD, FOMO, shit talk and trolling
- Disincentivize manipulation and scams.
Does anyone else care about these?
I see how we can start this on Nostr.
Would that be valuable to YOU?
Am I missing anything big here?
