Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.
Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!
We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!

Yes, I added more test vectors then and the last one indeed failed, lol
Also I exaggerated, I thought it's around 200 lines that I wrote for NIP-44 but it's 150. Now I feel bad
reply
I'm seeing a lot of "social consensus" and "community values" talk coming from Ethereum supporters wrt Lido's increasing dominance over the staking marketshare (~32%). There isn't really a way to limit Lido's growth short of a socially coordinated effort to slash / censor them.
(Yes this is schadenfreude.)

I'm beginning to implement pomodoro ... I could spend my whole day reading/commenting on SN.
In college I would do 45 on 15 off. During my 15, I'd play an iphone port of Joust. SN will be my joust now.
reply
I am wondering if having a pomodoro timer on my phone is actually the best idea. I think I need something standalone.
reply
A lot of people use a kitchen timer. I’m on my computer so I use one on there

The original was a tomato kitchen timer…. maybe I need to find one. Maybe I am procrastinating lol

mhh, ask again in two weeks
i tried to publish a new blog post every two weeks but my latest blog post was two weeks late, lol
and i originally wanted to do blog posts about bitcoin stuff
but i really want to delve deeper into the topic of anonymity and privacy and how important it is for societies. the part about paranoia should be about how existing laws may make problems worse. for example, I believe existing drug laws don't solve the problem of people abusing drugs. they just push the problem to the corners of society; casting addicted people out of society and forcing them to stay anonymous which may result in paranoia (drug abuse + stigmatization).

ᕦ(ò_óˇ) Day 12 of exercising everyday before the saloon opens
Tried to wake up at 7:30AM today so I could work for 1-2 hours on delphi.market. Didn't work, I just got and swiped the alarm off. Then I slept until 10AM, lol.
WIthout my streak, I probably would not have gotten out of bed early enough. I tried to go for a run today again, but it still didn't feel right. Just went for a 30min walk then and bought an iced coffee (sugar addiction probably) to drink it in a park before going home.
An elderly man sat down on the other end of the bench and after a few minutes, he wanted to show me something. At first I thought he is begging for money and the text on his phone is just the translation in German. Kind of sad that this was my expectation. But it wasn't. It was a photo of a restaurant sign for handwritten stuff. I don't remember exactly but it was something about women no longer cooking for men and the restaurant now filling this niche of serving men food.
I tried to smile since I didn't understand it properly. My mind was more occupied with guessing what this is about than just reading the text, lol. For some reason, I find it hard to read stuff when people are waiting for me to read it. But he then explained it to me (it's the sign of a restaurant from a friend) and went on a rant about woman today vs back in his days. He mentioned that women nowadays want to be handled like queens and men have no say anymore. I answered that I think not all women are like that and men are also responsible if they let women behave like that. He said I am right but he is too old now.
We then talked some more after I was initially worried about where this conversation might be going. We talked about his old days in the Soviet Union and how everything was great before Gorbatschow took over. Also talked about inflation, the vaccine and other stuff but I am too lazy go into detail here. I mentioned that I am working in the bitcoin space and I hope that bitcoin is going to fix a lot of stuff since most problems arise from governments having too much power and people having too much faith in authority. He agreed but he didn't seem interested in bitcoin so I didn't go deeper.
I was surprised when he was the first to stand up and end the conversation. He wanted to go to a Greece to fix the necklace of his daughter (we also talked about how nationalities weren't important in the Soviet Union before Gorbatschow). We exchanged names and I tried to thank him for the conversation in Russian by saying "пожалуйста". I wasn't sure if that's the right word so I asked him. Turned out that is actually "you're welcome". "спасибо" is "thank you" :)
reply
A walk with unintended interactions… very welcome!

Tip of the day!

ONLY for Saloon shitposters
Recently SN team implemented LNURL LUD-12 (add comments into a payment). Don't forget to drop some sats to them for this amazing work. What does it means? This is a very important LNURL feature that you can use it:
  • you can send DM to the receiver, just with 1 sat
  • you can attach a specific message with a payment. Let's say you want to donate to somebody 21000 sats and send a nice message to it. A nice way to send greetings.
  • remember that these messages also could be read by SN admins, SN is still a custodial service, so do not abuse their work.
How to do it? Simple:
  • If you are not using SN, go to any SN user profile, click on his yellow button with the LN address and will popup a QR code. Scan that QR with a LN wallet that support to attach a message to a payment. Add the amount and the comment and done. The receiver will see a nice message. You can use also the LN address directly if your wallet support it.
  • If you are using SN account, just go to your SN wallet and type the LN address of the SN user or any external LN address, select LN address tab and add the min 1 sat amount and also the comment / message (is the last field).
@k00b - maybe could add a simple link to this modal payment screen directly into each SN user profile? Like saying "send a DM here".
reply
^ @Natalia I figured it out on my own Lol.
reply
@darthcoin spoiled the exploring fun.!!
I would add one more detail: you can even hit repeat payment, then easily send different msg to the same receiver; real cool.

hmmm interesting why took so long? Is sending out and back to SN node? Maybe will be better is will strap that part and first checking if is existing SN account and not making the whole LN payment route ?
just my 2 sats thinking...
reply
I think the delay is more related to us polling LND every 5 seconds instead of subscribing to changes
Maybe will be better is will strap that part and first checking if is existing SN account and not making the whole LN payment route ?
Could do but that makes it unnecessary complex if that's not the reason for the delay. Programmers don't like exceptions.

no worry, was just a joke. Indeed, nobody knows from first time all the specs of a LN address. Usually users just have a wallet app that is doing all for them. SN is just starting now all these new features.

new opportunity to exercise @nemo's creativity
Learned from my summer clothes-making mistakes, always making things in advance instead of in that season.! Now, I'm exploring a bit to find good quality wool and cashmere to make winter clothes, but it takes so much work to source good fabric, and lots of learning at the same time.
Fun fact: there are only three main natural fabrics to make clothes: cotton, silk and wool. Once you find the good sources and have 1-2 skilled tailors with all your measurements ( never depend on one ), then you are pretty much free to make whatever you want, even if you are on the other side of the world, like a decentralized cloth making:)

If the goldbugs are right, why haven't gold-backed stablecoins taken off?
__@_'-'
reply
Gold would skyrocket if that happens and I feel the elite don't want gold to trade above a certain level. They want to control the price of gold as much as possible.
reply
My point is that gold-backed stables do exist, but there's negligible demand for them (<1% marketcap of USD stables).
You'd think that gold-backed stables would be more desirable than USD because at least gold appreciates over time. And custodial risk for USD is perhaps even higher than that of gold (see Russia's frozen reserves, could easily happen to Tether). Yet no market for gold-backed stablecoins has really emerged.
Perhaps the reason for this is that nobody is actually saving in USD stables and so they don't care about long term appreciation and risk tolerance. But it's interesting to observe these markets shake out while tradfi is panicking over BRICS.
reply
Are they issued by reputable companies or are they specific country issued gold-backed stables? I'm from a BRICS country and I can tell you know, we as a country haven't seen any benefit from the promise of a new BRICS currency. I believe a currency is only as strong as its government even if its a gold-backed stable. Corruption and greed will destroy any currency, except Bitcoin off course.

There’s a place I have never been…. not sure I would be welcome since my very public protest at the Japanese Prime Minister some years ago.

Ohk. If there's one language I would have loved to learn growing up, it would have been Japanese. I would be able to watch anime without subtitles. That would have been epic Lol.
reply
Yeah but it’s a hard language to learn from an English base. It’s classed as Category IV - which is the hardest level - along with Mandarin and Cantonese etc.
reply
Yeah. I'll pass for now! That's too many categories for me to handle on my own.
I can't believe @nemo is still missing in action. Tick tok buddy.

It just isn't the same without nemo and Darth. Maybe I'll have a breakfast shot of bourbon

I'll call you when they get here. Enjoy the breakfast.

Or, maybe they're having breakfast together and @siggy47 just teasing us, knowing they with him.

I wish that were true. High travel costs but worth it.
reply
Definitely worth it. We'll continue the chat later when they get here. I also have to get back to work.

There could be an ordinal theory but for saloon comments:
common: Any sat that is not the first sat of its block uncommon: The first sat of each block rare: The first sat of each difficulty adjustment period epic: The first sat of each halving epoch legendary: The first sat of each cycle mythic: The first sat of the genesis block
ordinal theory for saloon comments:
common: any comment that is not the first in the saloon uncommon: first comment in a saloon rare: the first comment in the saloon in each difficulty adjustment period epic: the first comment in each halving epoch legendary: the first comment in each cycle mythic: the first comment in the first saloon
since I also didn't know what is meant with cycles, I am adding the quote from the handbook here:
Cycles: Every six halvings, something magical happens: the halving and the difficulty adjustment coincide. This is called a conjunction, and the time period between conjunctions a cycle. A conjunction occurs roughly every 24 years. The first conjunction should happen sometime in 2032._
wanted to add a category for every 100th comment in a saloon but I leave this as an exercise to the reader
