This is why I don't trust Billionaires
reply
I'm starting to get interested in some of the anti-trust lit -- big tech is the obvious target these days, but there's an interesting history that I haven't thought much about before. The influence on society of monopoly power hasn't been a hot topic for most of my life, but when you peek inside, man.
Cory Doctorow has a new book out, and he's usually very good. There's Goliath that has been well-received, but man, it's long.
Anyone have any other recs or comments?

how does DoJ get this far then drop the ball. seems weird.

Maybe Alphabet's lawyers learned more from Microsoft's trial than the DoJ's? And they're likely paid more?

how would one put pressure on Mehta to change course or at least punish him in some capacity so others can't repeat the behavior?

The article highlights the changed legal landscape since the Microsoft antitrust trial in 1998 and closes with this remark:
Fortunately, this trial isn’t the last time Google will be on the stand. And despite Mehta’s caution, we are learning more about Google, just not nearly as much as we should. I didn’t know what to expect from this trial, but a blackout of information wasn’t on my radar. But I guess I shouldn’t have been. After all, who knows more about the value of privacy than Google?
