i wouldnt call lightning frictionless, at least not from a technical perspective.? Its possible that there is no central authority (yet?) that decide which payments get to go where.

I don't think there is any evidence that consumers want to consciously feel responsible for how they spend every idle minute of their time.
I have said this before, but just because we can doesn't mean we should.
I would rather pay for a block of time like a month and not have to think about it beyond that. If I'm paying for every minute, I'm much more likely to turn your trash podcast off the very second I'm not ecstatically enjoying it.

I think the key here is having options and the content creator can choose his monetization strategy instead of just relying on ads to pay the bills.

And in a lot of cases there is no "instead of" option. Non-main stream content simply cannot be paid in any other way as advertisers will not monetize controversial opinions.

It's magical seeing all these diverse podcasters slowly discover and integrate Podcasting 2.0 sat streaming into their shows. I use it everyday and believe Dergigi's excitement is well founded here.
