I just cannot get over how incredible this device is, especially at the price point of approximately $60 (and an extra 10% off if you use my code!!!).
What other hw wallet at this price point offers a fully air-gapped tx signing, with QR PIN signing, while being open-source and Bitcoin only.
I'm just thoroughly impressed. What am I missing? Are there any devastating facts I'm not aware of? Please, enlighten me SN community. You always do...
Well, the Seed Signer project claims that components required to build the device usually costs less than $50. The catch is you have to build it yourself, which could be a good thing because you can verify the build yourself. You are also sourcing off the shelf parts, which means it's less obvious than having a Jade or any other high profile hardware wallet ship to your house.
That said, I have no personal experience with the Jade or the Seed Signer. I'm a Coldcard guy myself. So, my comments probably don't mean much anyways...

The only real issue is Jade alone doesn't have the secure hardware to store the seed phrase securely (they are against using a secure element), so that's why the Blind Oracle feature to put the trust of the seed process to the oracle device exists. This isn't a security disadvantage as it overcomes the problem, however some people may find the process a bit tedious.
SeedSigner has this issue but Jade in my opinion provides a far better fix for just a very slight price bump. Jade is probably one of the best budget wallets on the market. I think the cheap price mostly boils down to the manufacturing costs, no need to buy a secure element etc.

If Jade / Blockstream would stop to run the Blind Orcacle the users would lose access to their wallets?
reply
No, I don't believe so. So long as you have your seed, you can always restore back into the device under a different config, or a different device entirely. Actually, now that I think about it I believe you can still access the device without the QR even if you set it up that way. I may be wrong on that, I'll have to double-check...

Yeah, makes sense, thanks. So the only way to get rekt would be to lose the seed backup as well in this case.

Yeah, that's the last line of defense.

Yes. It's good
