Got an android TV here and just had the thought this could be an interesting use for these things.

We are working on a second display mode that is just for showcasing the block clock on a phone/tablet/TV in your home, office, conference, etc. Still early, but something being considered. To make nodes not things you hide in small boxes next to your router, but something cool to show off. We'll have to see...

Better use fiatjaf's Trustedcoin node on a mobile.

Or even a neutrino node is better.

This is a full node though. You don't leak your wallet pubkeys and if it's connected via Tor it's not broadcasting transaction location either.
I could do this on my spare phone if I get its swollen battery replaced, and plug in a power/hub and 256gb drive, would be a lot more convenient than the old laptop. Only thing is at the moment I am not aware of USB-C power-and-OTG, for sure an older device with microusb and a charging OTG cable would work.
If it is on wifi and mobile for backup and has 8 hours of UPS like battery backup if it's not an ancient battery, could even be hooked through a big power bank.
There's a few good reasons to try something like this. I don't think the ocean of old but working smartphones is going to dry up any time soon.

As an experiment, maybe. But as a real life use, it will not work for long.
You can have a full node desktop at home or wherever you want and connect a neutrino or trustedcoin node to your own full node.
Neutrino is NOT leaking any pubkeys... read more about BIP157.
A mobile node it doesn't need to be 24/7/365 online. Is only for when you need to do the payment.

I think there is some question about the leaking of keys from BIP 157 filters. Easiest remedy is running your own full node and connecting to it, less effective would be using tor to connect to a BIP157 node. Best is running your own node(s) over tor and connecting your light nodes to it.
I think it's really not that long before such hardware is practical for such a purpose though. We have a little ARM64 board here, probably half the size of a rPi, we intend to develop something like this as a BTC/LN/Indra relay turnkey device. The problem with the mobiles is simply power and disk at the same time, they don't have eMMC SD cards commonly anymore, and OTG cables for USB-C don't seem to come in a charge-and-connect variety, when the socket is in host mode with a device plugged in it doesn't allow the charging at the same time. At least I haven't seen one. That's the only thing that is needed. I have a 1tb SSD I could use right now if this was possible, but without having power at the same time it's impossible.
