It will be interesting to see whether they just suddenly pull the funding or go through the year/season. Saudi Arabia has sunk a lot of money into this, and honestly, with the East-West pipeline fully operational, they are benefiting from the high oil prices. I actually like LIV and the new dimensions they brought, esp. the party atmosphere.

We will see what the PIF ends up doing.

Ahh they are cooked. I think LIV forgot that they need a fan base first for this to be sustainable

So I thought this too, and it turns out that outside of the US, LIV is actually super popular... it's the US market that has prevented it from being fully embraced. In the US, LIV has been locked out of most of the top courses, and that isn't the case elsewhere, apparently.

I think there is so much inertia when it comes to major sports leagues that unless they destroy themselves it is virtually impossible to compete with them.

Yeah, MLB's choice to form partnerships with independent leagues, I think, really helps both sides. The NBA really has crushed BIG3 and I dont see another football league in the US ever taking shape unless the NFL gets behind it like the NBA did with the G League.

I'm guessing that weird new basketball league is on hold too then

reply

I completely forgot about that basketball league! Yeah I dont really buy the reasoning being the focus is shifting to the World Cup in 2034 and the World Expo in 2030
