I just downloaded the Tether Wallet. Here are some things:
- It's self-custodial. Of course, for lazy people there are options for Drive/iCloud backup (not recommended) it's very intuitive to install.
- It has the @ tether.me username, meaning you can setup your LNURL and also their own internal username if you want to move USDT.
- It doesn't have USDT on LN (I won't use it but there are people wanting it, idk why)
- For bitcoin, you have: mainnet, Spark and LN (LN running with Spark), which I see lots of potential
- When you use LN, it runs over Spark, which is known for having some privacy issues detected by @benthecarman
And..that's it. A good self-custodial wallet. DYOR.
I am pretty surprised that Tether is only supported on 4 blockchains. Shouldn't a Tether wallet be the one that seamlessly supports Tether anywhere? Seems like it would be a killer feature.
Regarding the privacy thing, they use UMA for the addresses, which is a compliance layer on top of Lightning Address, and it's trivial to get your Spark address from your username and see your balance and all transactions on Sparkscan. Even easier than with Wallet of Satoshi addresses.
The visual style is competently executed. The user experience is pretty confusing with all the blockchain selectors, especially the blockchain dropdowns in receive, IMHO. But it's a solid first release with ideally rapid iteration.

Even if we aren't necessarily fans of the stablecoins, Tether integrating lightning (or just Spark) is cool.

When you say ‘self-custody’, do you mean that I’m given my 12-word recovery phrase when I create the wallet? Does this apply to both Bitcoin and USDT?
And how exactly does the Lightning option work? Does it work with self-custody channels?
Yes, Yes, LN works as intended to work and didn't try the self-custody channels.
Can you swap in / out of gold on it, or is it just for storing coins you already got elsewhere?

For the moment, it doesn't have that option. However, the fact of choosing Spark tells me that this movement is going to be there soon.
