So you're saying he'll be buying the 49ers next?

reply

It's on the table. He just needs to join the Red and Gold. Anything is possible after that.

reply

Can't play for the team you own. Ask Brady about that.

reply

He doesn't need to own them while he is playing. He can own whatever Leeds United is and trade in his shares for 49ers shares after they three peat and he retires.

I think it's a minor league football team.

Well, I would not consider them minor team after being three times Premier League winner, 2 UEFA Cups and 1 FA Cup. It's true that their best days were a few years ago though still a historic English team with big support in Yorkshire.

Is premier league the top minor league football level?

reply

Is it really premier when you have to send your four best teams to go play in a better league once a year? So yes it is exactly like triple A. In fact we should only describe it as such going forward.

In triple A baseball the best guys get called up to the major leagues to face better competition. In "premier league" soccer the best teams get called up to the Champions league to face better competition.

I am not sure whether we have same concept with regards to what a minor league is. Premier League is the top national league in Europe , and I would dare to say in the world. German Bundesliga, Spanish La Liga and Italian Serie A follow the English, with Ligue One following close. You can watch most of the top players there

I would consider middle leagues in Europe Dutch Eredivisie and Portuguese Primeira Liga. Then minor leagues in Belgium, Austria, Greece, Poland, ....

Cool. I didn't know they had those. Is it double or triple A?

reply

I think they use pretentious and confusingly unintuitive names for their levels

reply

How British of them.

I wasn't aware that 49ers were behind an English club

reply

49ers enterprises owns two soccer teams. Leeds United in EPL and Rangers F.C in Scottish premiership. It's an investment arm of the team headed by the 49ers owner Jed York and 49ers enterprises President Paarag Marathe.

They owned 100% of Leeds (seems they are taking outside investors like Crosby now) and 51% of Rangers F.C.

Personally I find it annoying because Jed York used to be one of the best owners and very willing to spend cash beyond the salary cap by paying players cash bonuses to retain them or restructure their contracts to keep the team under the cap but he got very cheap last year after they bought the second soccer team. Hopefully just a one year reset and not a trend.
