Bill Simmons was talking about how cool it would be if they introduced a Royal Rumble element to the All Star game.
I think he's right that it would be more fun to not know who's participating until they run out onto the court and that it could potentially be former players.
Former players would probably get their asses kicked. But random teams could be fun. Only disadvantage is the randomness could lead to imbalanced teams. Too big, too small, too talented, etc.

True. That would be insane! Vince was still windmill dunking several years ago at 40. With enough stretching, he might still be able to show off some nice dunks.
