While I'd very much like to be a cypherpunk, I'm mostly just a punk.

oh cool. i read Jonathan Bier's book Blocksize Wars a couple years ago. I don't think I ever posted a review, and sadly it's been too long since I read it for me to go back and do one.

I caught the last half of the bip110 debate on the planb livestream. I wish they would have discussed how it changes Bitcoin to be selecting specific kinds of transactions as bad and certain kinds as good. Maybe they talked about it before I started listening.

reply

didn't know they were having a debate

do you have a link?

It's a live stream. I think it turns into a recording once the steam is over.

Liberty is one side of the coin, responsibility the other.

liber-ty comes from both "book" and "free" - implying freedom through literacy; responsibility roughly means "ability to respond" - literate people can be responsible thru literacy and/or common sense;

otherwise one may look for some sort of script - there is no shortage of recommendations & even legal mandates on how to behave; outsourcing responsibility to a script goes along with giving up literacy, hence giving up freedom; even empathy & sympathy become scripted responses;

The sun cast its golden glow on the green field before me, its warmth a gentle balm to my battered soul scarred from the trials and tribulations of the workweek. A breeze caressed my face as I soaked up the sight of my daughter twirling in the sunlight with her newly acquired Frozen bag. She later stuck her tongue out for no apparent reason when she was using the slide. I looked at the leaves being stirred by the breeze, looked down at my latest read โ€œAuggie & meโ€, looked within my soul trying to connect the new word I had learnt from the book โ€” mitzvah (a good deed done from religious duty) โ€” to my existence.

The breeze grew stronger, uplifting my spirit and awakening my muse, which explains why Iโ€™m typing this. As I savoured the sight of her sprinting around the playground with all her might, I thought:

I have enough.
