Is a tor node? Or you are using Tor?

reply

I am using tor

And what I have said in here?

Tor + LN is a bad combination that doesn't serve anything. Remove Tor when you use Zeus or any other LN node and open channels with good clearnet peers.

reply

I am using a Start9 node in a box I donโ€™t think they allow users to run a clear net node. If so I would of been converted I hate tor

reply

Tor is watching porn not for running LN nodes. Tor is adding huge timeout (not only to your node but to the whole network) and is not at all a reliable network, where a LN node REQUIRE to be updated almost instantly.

Tor have its other use case but not for a LN node and will not offer any privacy more than a LN node could offer.

There Tor boxes where pushed into the market for clueless users that can't do a proper networking / security of their home, configuring properly a router and/or use a VPS for a VPN tunnel. Was the dumbest thing ever for LN nodes.

reply

I agree!! Do you have a guide that can help us ditch the tor gate keeping by Start9?

Or do I have to manually close all my channels and start fresh?

reply

I didn't write a dedicated guide for this, but I used this very good one to setup a home LN node with a VPS as a private VPN tunnel, used to hide your home IP.

https://github.com/TrezorHannes/Dual-LND-Wireguard-VPS

This way you can run easily and safely on clearnet any LN node, as a proper node.
Startt9 I think is also preparing a way to let users run their nodes on clearnet, using a wireguard tunnel. Same as the guide mentioned said.

So you could easily start in any PC a LND node, you can even run it in neutrino mode and connect it through a wireguard tunnel. Done. No need for any mumbo jumbo boxes.
If you prefer something like CLN you could also run it as a standalone node.

Seriously now, if you are not into running a professional public routing node, you really don't need a Tor only node in a box like Start9. A simple private LN node with AlbyHub, Lightning Pub, or just a simple LND node in neutrino mode is more than enough and no need for any Tor bullshit. Even Zeus with embedded node is more than enough to do your LN payments.

Some time last month, I am convinced that I was reading an article that claimed that SpaceX cannot track individual units crossing borders and that this is why there were issues with terrorists in Africa.

Today, Starlink's letter to the Uganda Communications Commission (#1404122) said otherwise so I had a trigger moment.

Since I couldn't find anything on SN or in my browser history about it (I read most stuff within tor browser so there is no history) I decided to ask Grok DeepSearch to just find it for me. Turns out that all this "news" was based on claims made by an interview by a Nigerian Government Advisor - it actually linked me the source video.

Does this happen when you do post or when you visit the post page?

reply

Canโ€™t post at all.

Strange. I could post my ramblings just yesterday.

I tried to use this drop down menu but it sent me to the error page

reply

I've been trying to reproduce this for the most part of the last 30 minutes, but can't. Now a sad thing is that the copy button doesn't work in the something went wrong page, and I'm gonna get it fixed, so I think it could be something simple as cache acting up.

Can you verify if this happens also on

  • PWA
  • Desktop
  • Incognito navigation

If all of these work, with your account, then it may very well be a cache issue and you can clear website data on Settings -> Apps -> Safari. Make sure to target stacker.news when clearing data!

reply

Thanks for trying so hard and taking such a valiant interest in my case!

I cleared my cache but still couldnโ€™t post. I now see that muted territories are the problem.

Thank you again

This is gold! Muted territories insert objects in the subs array, this is the culprit.

noice! appreciate it, still a few big changes i wanna build but it's getting there! the app still feels quite rough around the edges to me, lots of things i wanna improve. but maybe that feeling never goes away?

reply

It never goes away! There's always something do. You refine one thing, then everything else feels rough. It's kind of like a hedonistic treadmill.

reply
173 sats \ 2 replies \ @plunda 6 Jan

hahah yeah this makes total sense. a family member told me that i've been saying "I just need to do X and then it'll be ready" for a while now. it's all good though, I just need to refactor how loot works a little and then it'll be ready ;)

but joking aside, will defo start focusing on the soft stuff very soon, start getting onto growing out the active user base and zooming in on PMF, and also start making money through a few eBay integration tools i built into the app. excited to see what comes next.

reply
173 sats \ 1 reply \ @k00b 6 Jan

Attracting other sellers will get the ball rolling. There's a guy on SN that used to auction a lot of old Weimar bank notes.

I don't know your long term plans, but I like the focus on old money. I'd keep that for as long as possible if you can find demand for it. Then if that takes off you have everything built for auctioning other stuff; kind of like how Amazon started with books.

reply
68 sats \ 0 replies \ @plunda 6 Jan

the selling angle will be interesting. it's going to take a slightly different form to other marketplaces. plunda will act as a custodian of all collectibles (but potentially down the line also partner with some highly trusted sellers) so anyone selling collectibles via plunda will first need to ship them all to the plunda.co HQ for processing, photographing and grading.

so taking your Amazon example a step further, plunda will essentially offer a comprehensive Amazon-esque fulfilment service for collectibles. Or something like that. The idea being to offer a much more comprehensive service than legacy marketplaces like eBay, while keeping fees competitive with said legacy marketplaces. So it'll hopefully be an attractive alternative. However, there's some real trust required there, so it might take some time to build up a strong and trust-worthy reputation.

users will be able to deposit their collectibles for sale via plunda at the end of the first quarter of 2026 (hopefully). v excited to get the ball rolling with that. in the mean time all collectibles will be listed by me and are supplied to me via some trusted coin dealers who i'm partnered with. that way I can seed the marketplace with 1000s of collectibles to get the ball rolling too, and also sell them via eBay to keep things ramen profitable until the plunda marketplace takes off.

but yeah, also a ton of fun loot features to build, and collector facing features too! but most of those will wait until there's a few more users who can be my sample set and provide feedback.

defo hold onto some of that high ticket elite loot tho, I'll be building some cool sharing features into the app that we can do give aways with!

reply

No clue. Itโ€™s all part of my plan. I am going to support your development efforts the best I can. In 2026!

Thus me buying loot and giving it a way. Even the expensive loot.

yeah those games are a big inspiration. will be leaning a little more into that direction in the next update. excited to get that built.

it'll be interesting to see where things end up with plunda. there's lots of experimenting to do to find a path to solid product market fit, maybe it'll involve some interesting pivots.

ahhh yeasss!! that's cool to hear!

will have a new collection feature coming in the next big update. it'll be a new type of loot: The Coin Album.

you'll be able to build a proper collection with it, by adding assets you own to a digital album. that way you can track missing dates and keep your assets organised inside the album, instead of just having them all mixed up in your assets page.

stay tuned and thanks for the interest ๐Ÿ™‚
