Any opinions positive or negative on this company? I don't love that Tether is involved, but they seem to be involved in everything lately.

Here is the Tether press release announcing their investment in Speed:

Speed integrates tightly with the Lightning Network while enabling stablecoin settlement for users and merchants who require price stability. This combination reduces friction for cross-border transactions, creator payouts, merchant payments, and platform-level settlement.

It's interesting that Speed is using Taproot Assets rather than RGB. I'm pretty sure RGB is mostly Tether-backed, while I don't think Tether is directly involved in Taproot Assets (which is Lightning Labs)

BTW Speed was the first to launch USDT on lightning Network.

They say they are making Bitcoin accessible to the whole world by doing so.

Yup....

Tether is also a backer of a (KYC) wallet called Sorted.

What's unique is they build android to work on older releases of Android as well, which is nice because there are many older smartphones still in use in the Global South. And they support KaiOS feature phones, which are surprisingly affordable.

Also lets you convert to (but not from) local fiat using mobile money as well.

I've not installed it because it requires KYC, but they claim LN support is coming (if not arrived already, haven't checked). And Tether Gold, as well as Liquid, and more.

They have XAUT and other tokens and shitcoin. I used in the beginning, low fees and very stable, but I moved on. Keep away.

I received an email from them today, I assumed it was junk/spam

The Founders Raj Patel and Jay Patel are serial entrepreneurs and lifelong technologists. Their previous startup, Orderhive, is a global SaaS automation platform that streamlined e‑commerce operations for thousands of merchants worldwide. Orderhive grew rapidly and achieved a successful acquisition exit. Raj and Jay gained invaluable insight into how slow settlements and fragmented payment systems still limit global commerce, and their passion for Bitcoin led them to tackle the problem by building Speed.

I am not impressed by the founders
