pull down to refresh

Saifedean Ammous returns to discuss his brand new book, The Gold Standard: An Alternative History of the Twentieth Century, in which he describes a world in which sound money hadn’t been abandoned.

I still like Saifadean. I know many can't stand him but like many thinkers I don't agree with many things he says and he can be guilty of arrogance. This new book is interesting to me. Are you planning to read it? I am.

I read the first 4 chapters when he released them (in ~January this year) and preordered the book.

...THEN HE TARDIED LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER.

So kind of annoyed that I haven't even received it yet. (Though I got an email about getting a shipment soon)

he promised the book in Q1 this year, sold it literally 12 months ago, and has still to this day not published it...

Hashtag lazybones.

Ahh I see. Tardied as in "tardy" and not "retardied".

It'll come out before Winds of Winter at least. Probably.

I had some issue with his store when the Fiat Standard came out and they sent me two free copies to make up for it. I don't even remember what the issue was now.

It probably won’t make my cut but I will be interested to follow the conversation around it

I just got it, and am on the section where he writes about how World War I actually developed.

I never knew what an incredible, treasonous, perverted and sick path it was (has fiat written all over it) that pushed so many nations into this war.

Disgusting, but good to know.

WWI eventually killed more than 17 million people, and laid the groundwork for WWII.

Looking forward to getting to the more uplifting sections.
