Isn't self custodial clearer? I've always been sketched out by definitions that try to define something by what it is NOT :)

neither it's a false dychotomy, like your leftright redblue... to custody means to keep and care for something https://thelawdictionary.org/custody/
but what is left out is what matters doesn't mean possession, or ownership, or having any rights. but it implies responsibility, duties

“Non custodial” is a psyop. It uses the negative “non” to sound bad. It makes it sound like custodial is the norm and this is the bad version of it. It’s meant to scare you off — that’s why legislation in EU loves to use this phrasing.
Do not use non-custodial as a phase. It is a tool of the state to discourage you to from holding your own coins and taking control (away from them) of your money.

somebody will always have custody. Custody is often used in regards of a property and how is controlled: self-cuastody or delegated custody.
non-custodial is confusing and also could mean that owned by nobody.

Exactly the point of legal government language- to say that unless “your” bitcoin is held by trusted safe and effective banks, it isn’t owned by anyone and can be seized.

The better would be delegated custody.
reply
Yes. This is from the above post:
CURRENT TERMINOLOGY - BAD Custodial - somebody else has custody of your wallet. "Not your keys, not your coins". Non-Custodial - you have custody of your own wallet, i.e. self-custody
IMPROVED TERMINOLOGY - GOOD Self Custody - you have custody of your bitcoin yourself Delegated Custody - you have delegated custody of your bitcoin to someone else
The only problem..."delegated" has 4 syllables. Doesn't quite roll off the tongue.
Maybe "Entrusted" custody? "Assigned" custody?
reply
delegated is fine.
you coudl distinguish between fractional and full reserve delegated custody.

I think it’s even better than non-custodial because delegated express the meaning of the custody by it self. Works in another languages too.

The media psyop mind control people invented “non-custodial” for a reason. It’s not something we plebs just started saying.

This is a new thing for me.

This is seriously ridiculous. This is the best way to confuse normies...
This is why protocols like Ecash and Fedimint are awesome because we don't sit around arguing between all of this nonsense. Ecash for everyone in the private sphere. Let the public sphere do what they do best, (or worse wink wink 😉 ) aka hold your money and whatever happens happens...
Period.

There’s a difference between self custodial and non custodial. Self custodial is only I can spend my funds, non custodial being no one else can spend my funds.
