After some tuning from what probably was the first message posted by SMS on Nostr, here is the code!

sms2nostr is a proof of concept of a sms-to-nostr gateway that permits a user to post notes on Nostr using non internet enabled phones and IoT devices, or feature phones when the network is not available.

If you want to try it right now feel free to DM me on Nostr [1], I setup a USA number that can receive sms from all over the world.

Great job, you could turn this into a service and include posting Bitcoin transactions via SMS.

Nice idea! A lot of stuff to dream about, the day should have 48 hours. Ok, 72 is better :)

This is a great example of utility for any 911 scenario. Great implementation! keep it up.

The sender will accrue network charge right?

reply

It depends on your operator and plan.
Usually sending to a local number is free while international recipients have a cost.
My operator charges €0,07 per sms when sending to non Italian numbers.

An instance can manage more numbers, from different sources too, and we can also have more instances, so we can build a structure that does not accrue network charges.
