Hello. I'm checking in on you guys after a little sabatical. Hope all is well.
Seems like I didn't miss much... Bitcoin is very boring, after all. As good money should be.
I remain fully allocated. I sold some sats for an electric bike half a year ago, but that's about it.
Observations:
  • Surprised (and suspicious) at how deranged the filter debate has become.
  • Pleased that SN is still going strong.
  • Lightning remains the most interesting project / ecosystem in Bitcoin. Nothing else (Ordinals, BitVM, Taproot Assets, Ark, etc.) has gained traction. Lesson in that.
  • Podcasters shilling doomed treasury companies has been extremely funny.
  • So-called libertarians sucking Trump's cock over the SBR has been even funnier.

Earlier this week, Scott Aaronson (Quantum computing guy) made a somewhat off-hand comment in a post on his blog (#1285004):
[G]iven the current staggering rate of hardware progress, I now think itโ€™s a live possibility that weโ€™ll have a fault-tolerant quantum computer running Shorโ€™s algorithm before the next US presidential election.
Aaronson apparently felt that his initial remark about hardware progress was taken out of context by...pretty much everybody and has published a second blog post entirely devoted to clarifying the comment:
Itโ€™s like this: if you think quantum computers able to break 2048-bit cryptography within 3-5 years are a near-certainty, then Iโ€™d say your confidence is unwarranted. If you think such quantum computers, once built, will also quickly revolutionize optimization and machine learning and finance and countless other domains beyond quantum simulation and cryptanalysisโ€”then Iโ€™d say that more likely than not, an unscrupulous person has lied to you about our current understanding of quantum algorithms.
On the other hand, if you think Bitcoin, and SSL, and all the other protocols based on Shor-breakable cryptography, are almost certainly safe for the next 5 years โ€ฆ then I submit that your confidence is also unwarranted. Your confidence might then be like most physicistsโ€™ confidence in 1938 that nuclear weapons were decades away, or like my own confidence in 2015 that an AI able to pass a reasonable Turing Test was decades away. It might merely be the confidence that โ€œthis still looks like the work of decadesโ€”unless someone were to gather together all the scientific building blocks that have now been demonstrated, and scale them up like a stark raving madman.โ€ The trouble is that sometimes people, yโ€™know, do that.

For all those posting "free samourai", you are just virtue signaling a dead cause. They pleaded guilty, is game over !
If they were real freedom fighters will never plead guilty and will "play" the court in other way, not with pussy lawyers.
I suggest to watch the old movie "Interstate 60" and see what am I talking about. here is a scene of how to play the court to defend your position.
Watch the entire movie so you will understand why they used metaphorically a bomb-vest in the movie...
You never plead in a court, guilty or not guilty, never plead. Pleading means you renounce to all your rights, you are a garbage, a slave and they can do whatever they want with you.

Trudged my way to the last day of school. Which is a remarkable feat in itself because any teacher who has had to teach students to sit still, focus and learn after their exams can attest to the excruciating pain involved.
Still, I spent two periods today modifying four questions for my Foundation Science class just to reinforce the concept of identifying changed variables. I must admit that I am aghast at how the new syllabus requires Primary 3 students to identify changed and unchanged variables from the get-go. Wonโ€™t this nightmare hit closer to home when my son grows up in the near future? Geez. ๐Ÿ™„
(I only managed to go through two questions with them, but no harm done. Sensei is professional this way.)
Also forced my English class to complete a comprehension exercise while I attended to two students and gave them pointers for their reading. Well, I hope they take some of these pointers to heart and improve gradually so that I can focus on their other peers next year. A public school teacherโ€™s job is never done.
No worries. Sensei handles it well because he went straight home after dismissal to indulge in the last episode of Physical Asia.

Sharing how I accidentally ditched coffee
I used to be one of those people who needed a cup of coffee every day, but recently I noticed I hadn't had coffee for more than three weeks, and I don't crave for it anymore.I only drink hot tea these days; I think the main reason was that I didn't have milk at home, and I didn't want to go all the way to buy fresh milk, so I drank tea instead.
The takeaway is to make it so hard to do the thing you want to change that you replace it with a better habit and make it easier.

I didn't feel any craving while suffering through my first cold of the winter.
After a few days I deliberately used the hot drink as a sugar delivery vector for suppressing symptoms.
