i'm currently running a small data center in my home, running two bitcoin nodes, plex server, dns sinkhole, torrent server, and a litany of development related services on several dell poweredge R710s and 8x raspberry pis.
i'm currently sitting at about half of a terrabyte of ram and over 96 physical cpu cores in the entire rack and 60+ TB of storage
what kind of setup are you running? what are you hosting?
I have found internet options to be the limiting factor for self hosting.
Do you use a router that supports multiple WAN inputs?
Will the router auto switch if a ISP connection goes down?

I have a raspberry pi. It’s always slow and sometimes just doesn’t work well.

Which one?

Your setup sounds incredible. I self-host my node on a raspi - that's it.

thanks! it took a while to get here, but it's got phenomenal horsepower. the poweredges are a lot cheaper than you might think. ~$250 USD each and they're incredibly cheap to upgrade and max out on ram

Do you need a static IP to self-host LN node for the site?
reply
Oh I was talking about my personal node.
Originally SN's node was only available over Tor, but then Tor started getting DoS'd so we started using clearnet. SN's node is in the cloud.

ya i was astonished to see how cheap refurbished, pretty powerful machines are right now. Not like it was the last time I bought a computer (10 years ago).

nextcloud jellyfin home-assistant.
I am wanting to get a DNS and monitoring solution put in. that is coming in the future.

i've been really interested in jellyfin in favor of plex. thoughts?
reply
me too, just listened to a pod where they talked about jellyfin, need to learn more :)
reply
Unfortunately never tried Plex but a buddy of mine liked the modular effect of Jellyfin compared to Plex. Plus I just use it for one thing viewing shows. So it has worked great for me in that regards.
