pull down to refresh

Oh, Mr. Nick!
I had no strong interest in attending the "No Kings" march in New York City on Saturday until I learned from White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt that "The Democrat Party's main constituency is made up of Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals" and from Speaker Mike Johnson (R–La.) that "If you think about what's going to happen…you're going to bring together the Marxists, the socialists, the Antifa advocates, the anarchists, and the pro-Hamas wing of the far-left Democrat Party."

"Once I heard this, I was in."

More surprisingly, the messaging, both through signs and in conversation, was focused on the real and imagined personal failings of Trump and key points of his domestic agenda, especially Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids
I took the opportunity to talk with various cops posted along the route. With the warnings of Ted Cruz, Mike Johnson, and Karoline Leavitt buzzing around the back of my mind, I asked them whether they were concerned about things getting violent. One cop, who said he'd been on the force since the mid-aughts, laughed and gestured toward the crowd of people walking, talking, and occasionally chanting. No, he said, this sort of protest doesn't give rise to that.

I also found myself in NYC in Saturday, having no idea that this shenanigan was going on. At first, all I saw were a surprising number of police officers everywhere. Then a bunch of people with cardboard signs with this or that sometimes quite amusing message.
Here are my notes:
New York is known for high finance, for fashion, for up-and-coming innovative people. Beautiful, fit, put together. Yeah, none of those guys were out marching today.
It was old scruffy ladies, it was trashy college students, cucked soyboys, unimpressive oldtimers. One morbidly obese woman, Dunkin' Donuts cup in hand, wore a t-shirt saying "Hot girls for Zohran"

The coolest signs were Trump fucks kids", "Trump is a faggot" and "eat the rich"

I dunno, man, it was all quite tragic. Nobody you'd want to be was there, and they were making less than nothing worth of noise. Gillespie, too, got fooled into a crowd of people that he mistook for protesters; it was just some anime, KPOP, noodle thingamajig event. Boring.
Altogether a nothingburger.
Also, this was really funny: WE'RE REALLY ANGRY but no idea why or whatfor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdZKB4Aa66o
P.S., King Charles' birthday is Nov 14; King's Day in the Netherlands is April 27.
