steal?
if you really do not need it, just buy a bike and rest of the money, put them in sats.
mhh I live in a city that is not really drivable, but I also like driving and never bought a car myself. Maybe I’ll postpone this
If you really have to use a car, because... many reasons, then buy the cheapest, ugly but working one and just keep your money. Anytime you can dump it for another one without regrets and nobody will steal it :)
oh right I forgot about theft lmao, and I also forgot that in Italy we pay Bollo which is a perpetual yearly tax on car ownership, which can very well be 1000+/year
I have a friend that he lives in a auto-caravan. But he didn't bought it. Is in leasing. Practically a rent without any responsibilities, taxes etc. And when is about to expire the leasing, he just change the car for a new one. But yeah this ia another scenario where you pay a rent that could be higher than all those old cheap cars.
I would choose the cheap cars method. I did that years ago when I was "in love" with BMW cars and liked to have fast and powerful cars. But that era passed away when I realized how much money I spend in cars instead of Bitcoin. So I sold my lovely nice BMW and bought a bike and really cheap car that I can dump it anytime when is dead. The rest of the money I put them in BTC. I don't use too much the car because I live in a rural area, but I use the bike and walking.
I was exploring that option too, 250/month for a Toyota CH-R with insurance+anti-theft, no taxes and after 4 years I can change to another car.
Arguably renting a car is a much better solution than owning one unless you're rich/want to put some work on the car

I think that this music is fitting for SN's Western vibes:

Making small adjustments to my migration and watching all my performance gains vanish hurts my feelings.
The worst part is unless I hack around using postgres' confusing logs, I have no idea how much longer a migration will take to complete.
it will all be over soon
i hope you're right
Mee too

FutureBit running 2.4% of bitcoin nodes!
What make you chose it and why not something else?
Just to be clear, I am not running a bitcoin node on a future bit. Only 2 miners.
I chose it because I liked that it was designed to run in a home, not industrial setting. I don’t think I was aware of some other home miner alternatives when I first bought. But I also like the amount of hash rate it provides
you then don't know that you need a bitcoin node (not a lightning node) to run a mining rig. Or were you able to connect the FutureBit miners to an external bitcoin node?
What are the other home mining alternatives you would consider instead? I ask because I'm planning on setting up a rig at home, your insights would be useful.
I’m trying not to take offense to what you’re telling me. I’m pretty sure I know what I need to run a mining rig considering I run 4 of them.
I don’t have the full Apollo units, just the miner units. They offer multiple variants, some that include a PC and others that don’t. I chose not to buy the full units because I can provide my own “head” to drive the miners.
I don’t solo mine, I run with a mining pool, so no, I don’t need a bitcoin node myself to run a miner. The pool provides that infra for me.
I do happen to also run a bitcoin node, but it’s independent of the miners.
I think the other units to consider are the Canaan Avalon units, and probably others.
I ask genuinely, sorry if I offered you somehow. This clarifies more for me, thanks for sharing your miner alternatives ad current setup.
I was probably being overly sensitive. Sorry :)
