We don't hear much about the goings on in the far corners of the American empire, but the Alaskans got hit by some pretty rough storms last week.
The storm left homes uninhabitable and utilities inoperable in communities around the region, displacing more than 1,000 from their homes. Just over 1,300 people were sheltering in schools in eight communities as of Tuesday evening, according to an Alaska State Emergency Operations Center situation report.
Tough times for folks up there.

It's always tough times up there. NW Alaska is a barren wasteland. That's why there were only 1000 people who needed to be evacuated from an area the size of California.
