I honestly don't know how I feel about any of this....on the one hand I never liked Kimmel and disagreed with nearly everything he has said, on the other I don't think the "cancel wars" are sustainable for a healthy democracy.
Its only a matter of time until the other team gets in power and payback will happen.
Having said all that, lots of people pressuring a company to change course is a valid free market expression....So hard to pinpoint exactly how I feel except, 'uneasy'.
I don't think we're obliged to care when the corporate press fires one of their paid propagandists.

Trump 2016 truly was the death of comedy
I figured this was the real reason. I knew Colbert's numbers were terrible and that late night shows were down in general.

The format is dead but it could have had another few years. Trump broke these guys as he did many people.
Its still wild to watch even though its been almost 10 years now. I guess what is most wild to me is how small the index card of allowable opinion actually is. What would these clowns do with an actual radical with principle?
reply
It might actually break their brains less. Trump’s lack of clear principles make him a blank canvas. His supporters paint everything they like on him and his opponents paint everything they hate.

lots of people pressuring a company
That's the market bro. Regardless of whether we like it or not. The market isn't always good. It is amoral.
Pretty sure ABC also would not allow Kirk to speak as he did on campus either. Not good for business and advertising would not approve. The problem is when the state interjects itself.

(1) Its uncomfortable that both the left and now the right is being conditioned to fall for the "hate speech" meme and cheer for silencing people
(2) At the very same time, I honestly think Kimmel only had his job in the first place due to gov support from previous administrations. Who knows what back room deals existed between ABC Corp and Big Gov to "enable diverse and progressive" voices.

Many Republicans have zero clue or principles. There is no ideological consistency. It's being exposed. Even some of the better ones are really leftists with some specific set of moral beliefs abandoned by the Democrat party. They want to have big government and make decisions for individuals on all sorts of stuff. Some even seem to oppose free market economics.
Trump above all is not ideological let alone a conservative. He isn't a fascist. He seems to operate completely on gut and who has his ear. People project on to him their hopes and fears.

Is that the real brian stelter? I thought Brian Stelter was a big leftist

Yeah that’s him, he reached out to Carr to get a statement as soon as he heard the news and just Carr sent a gif 😂

LOL, I thought the tweet was a joke, but it's sincere
We truly live in a surreal fantasy clown world

This second Trump Admin has been clear in that they are operating under an eye for an eye ideology. He hasnt forgotten what was done and said about him during the 4 years of the Biden admin and what they did to social medias over COVID.
Is it right or good? I dont think so two wrongs dont make a right but at the same time if this is how the game is going to be played then we (Republicans) need to either play the same or somehow wrangle 6 Senate Dems to get a law passed to change things.

I think his ratings are down like Colbert
If his ratings were high, he wouldn't be 'cancelled'
I remember Jimmy Kimmel was the sports guy for Kevin and Bean on KROQ radio station

Maybe he did it on purpose

Yeah I think the corporate press will be pushing:
“Jimmy K. Fired for jokes/“remarks””
Not:
“Jimmy K. Lies about Kirk shooter/motive”
And since no one will go to the source footage, the misinforming is already done.
