Let's go!!! Footballs back baby woooo!!!!
reply
How are you feeling about the Vikings week 1 matchup with the Bears?
reply
Anxious.
Harrison Smith is probably out, leaving our secondary in a rough spot. It'll force Flores to not be able to play his fun 3 safety looks, meaning metellus won't be playing his hybrid LB/S Slot Corner role and will probably have to take on a more traditional safety role.
TJ Edwards is probably out for the Bears which puts the middle of the field exposed for players like Hock and Theilen working in the flats and slot. So I think that's where we gotta target. Jaylon Johnson is also up on blocks, so Jefferson is gunna eat.
Soldier field has had something crazy like 5 concerts in as many days and the ground is a mess, billion dollar industry and grass Vs turf is always a problem for the NFL, I'm hoping we don't see any ground related injuries but the state of the stadiums grounds the other day... Makes me very concerned.
I think McCarthy just has to be safe with the football and not try to do too much and he'll be successful in this system.
Anxious yes, excited, certainly. It's football season baby let's go!!!
reply
Are you staying up all night to watch? Haha.
Odd they would allow so many concerts right before the opener.
reply
Money talks as they say. Stadium owners make loads of of concerts.
Nah, I'll probably watch the first set and maybe the first half of the second set then it'll be bedtime for me. Got an early start as usual. Should be able to catch up with SNF on playback Monday evening and then catch the MNF on Tuesday.

Summary of Stacker Sports Podcast Episode (Season 2 Premiere)

In this episode, hosts discuss rebooting the podcast as Season 2, coinciding with the NFL season and marking nearly a year since their start. They introduce Stacker News as a Bitcoin-tipping forum where users pay to post and earn sats for quality content, highlighting its incentives and community features. Shoutouts are given to territories like "books and articles" for its successful August fiction contest (with 57+ entries) and "health and fitness" for recent revenue growth through product promotions and giveaways. They emphasize Stacker News as a hub for Bitcoin businesses, citing examples like Critics building their user base through engagement.
The conversation shifts to NFL football, recapping opening games: Eagles' win over Cowboys (focusing on penalties, defensive issues, and player performances like Hurts and Dak) and Chiefs' narrow victory over Chargers (praising Mahomes' clutch plays but noting vulnerabilities like injuries and receiver shortages). They speculate on teams' seasons, Mahomes' elite status compared to peers like Allen and Burrow, and potential Chiefs regression. Upcoming games like 49ers vs. Seahawks, Raiders vs. Patriots, and Bills vs. Ravens are previewed, with intrigue around rookies and matchups.
They announce a partnership with Predicts, a Lightning Network prediction market in beta, for NFL "game of the week" markets (e.g., Cowboys-Eagles and Bills-Ravens). Discussions include strategies for recruiting new Stacker News users via events like NFL survivor pools and contests, noting challenges in retention but successes with engaged newcomers.
Briefly, they touch on MLB playoff races (tight AL East/Wild Card) and fantasy baseball playoffs, where the hosts may face off in the championship. A teaser is given for an NBA scandal involving Kawhi Leonard and Clippers owner Steve Ballmer allegedly circumventing the salary cap via a tree-planting sponsorship scheme, with predictions of severe penalties and broader implications (potentially ending salary caps due to Bitcoin's influence—more details promised next episode).
The episode ends with a "Which Happens First" segment: a new highest-scoring soccer match (surpassing 149-0, all own goals in a protest) or lowest-scoring pro basketball game (under 19-18 from 1950). Hosts lean toward the basketball record breaking first. They update on survivor pools and encourage listeners to join discussions on Stacker News.
The tone is casual, enthusiastic about sports and Bitcoin communities, with a focus on engagement and fun predictions.

One more hiccup to fix and I think I will be able to mirror all our picks for week 1 into the app.
App is allowing and registering rebuy and then allowing the user to make a pick for that week once the rebuy has been implemented but their picks aren't showing up in the admin panel so I can't validate them. Need to fix and test this and then we should be good to go.

Hey we forgot to talk about the Magpies returning from the dead to knock off the #1 seeded Crows. Need to fit in some AFL playoff talk next week.
reply
Yeah, we spent way longer on the two football games than I expected. Didn't give the contests nearly enough attention
reply
We spent a lot of time talking about SN in general. I think that is good once awhile.
reply
I suppose if we're treating this as a reintroduction, we should spend more time talking about the different kinds of contests people can take part in next week.
