As @realBitcoinDog would say GRAYRUBY is a stupid stupid man.
Signed up for the Satoshi Sharps NFL Survivor pool. The group chat is on telegram which I have never used. I downloaded the app and signed up with my phone number. I of course used my standard grayruby user name.
I get a message this morning "Hey boss" and immediately thought "what is this? Is this someone from the football pool chat trying to direct message me?".
Nope. Someone who used to work for me. Apparently I was discoverable on telegram to any of my phone contacts who also use telegram. Womp Womp.
I found and changed the setting but I may need to kill my former employee now. Just kidding (maybe).
Stay vigilant stackers. Don't be a stupid stupid man like GRAYRUBY.
Sats for all, GR
I absolutely hate these privacy disrespecting default settings.
The thing that shocked me was that the default setting for Venmo is to publicize all the money you're sending around to other people. Like, who the f*** thought that was information that by default should be public??

I agree
People like to publicize their payments on Venmo like it’s a public blockchain or something
reply
My payments are not social media

Yup I doxx myself all the time. It happens to the best of us. If you come to TABCONF this year I will be doxxed in IRL.
But another reason why I hate telegram. Telegram is the reason I got scammed.

Its also a honeypot for Intel agencies. Better use matrix.

Tox is good too.

Do you feel comfortable sharing the scam tale?
reply
Oof. That sucks -- sorry to hear it. But yeah, eliminating everyone in your contact list (wife and offspring excluded, assuming you trust them) is probably the only safe thing to do now.

Telegram is a honeypot. Signal is just as bad. Only thing left is IRL.

maybe bitchat is the answer?

Tox is often overlooked but perhaps the most secure of all.

Yes, that's the problem with Telegram. As soon as you open an account, all your contacts who have this app receive a message saying, "This person is now on Telegram."
reply
Eek. I feel for you

It's ok. He is a cool guy. It's my fault, I didn't check the settings but I was surprised that telegram which is supposed to be privacy focused defaults to discoverable.
reply
It’s definitely way too easy to mess it up IMO
reply
And to make matters worse, Telegram sends a notification to all your mobile contacts that you've joined Telegram, as if to say:
HEY, come check it out, this boy joined Telegram...!!!

It's not easy to get guns in our country, but if you need sharp knives or need to sharpen your knives for a clean cut, hit me up. I'm pretty good at sharpening.

yeah, never give Telegram access to your contacts and hide your phone number in settings.
reply
Yeah. My mistake.

I hate when telegram does this.

If you need any help from Indian dakus, I may arrange some.

Sorry man. Thats sucks. At least it’s someone you know and (presumably) trust. :(

I have it on good authority that @supercyclone knows who you are IRL
